I have been recording tv shows using a stand alone DVD recorder and many of the DVDs have 2 or more different shows on them. As the title says, I would like to extract episodes from multiple DVDs without re-encoding them and put them on 1 dvd to make a DVD set of that particular show. How would I go about doing this and what programs would I need? I haven't been able to find much information on this. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there, you mention you are using a "stand alone" dvd recorder. Is this one connected to the tele? Are these recorded DVD's 1/2 hour, 1 hour etc. concurrent episodic shows. If they are 1/2 hour, you should be able to get 4 episodes on one DVD without really losing much quality. If they are more than a 1/2 hour, we'd have to determine what you would consider as appropriate as far as your viewing quality. This all under the pretense you would like to keep in DVD format
There are all kinds of programs available should you want to create an episodic DVD. I personally use Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus and have done a ton of episodics for my kids. Now for them, they really don't care what it looks like, just as long as they see the show they want. I've gotten 4-5 episodes of Jimmy Neutron on quite a few DVD's with excellent quality. I simply import the contents of the DVD into Pinnacle's story board, remove all of the commercials, clip the beginnings and endings and throw some transitions in so one episode goes right into another. I create the DVD and I'm done. There are also a couple others out there available as well. Some to note are Ulead DVD movie Factory, and Ulead Media Studio. Also DVD Lab. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the stand alone DVD recorder is connected to the TV. The DVDs are already finalized and playable in DVD players. Just in case I didn't explain it fully here is an example:

Lets say I have 2 DVDs with episodes I want to extract. DVD 1 has an episode of 24 and Lost on it and DVD 2 has an episode of House and Lost on it. I would like to extract the 2 Lost episodes from the 2 DVDs and put them on 1 DVD without losing any quality.

Will Pinnacle Studio be able to extract the episodes in a format without degrading the video quality?

Sure, all you have to do is import the DVD/s contents into Studio and extract exactly what you want, then create your new DVD with just those two episodes. You'll have the benefit of viewing as you add your episodes to your storyboard. You can add in transitions, menu's, background colors, chapters etc as well. Here's a couple screen shots from videohelp:

Thanks for the information. A friend is going to give me Pinnacle Studio 8 so hopefully it will be adequate.

Should be. I have used 8-9-10. 8 did what I wanted it to. and 9 Plus has been that much better. I tried 10 and quickly went back to 9 Plus. Ten was/is a let down. It's basically beta, I ain't about to be a guinea pig for them. Too many issues.
