I got a svideo connector on one end, analog (rca)connector on the other video cable with my video card. I ran it out to my 27" jvc tv and it didn't look good. It looked all dithered and wasn't very sharp. I got a proper svideo cable and put the hybrid away. Recently I was transferring video tape through my leadtek winfast tv2000 xp capture card to my pc and I remembered the hybrid. My VCR doesn't have svideo out. I hooked it up but the signal was black and white for some reason. I checked all my connections but could not get it to display in color. So my question is this. Has anyone used a cable like this when transferring video tape? Does it make any difference in the quality of the transfer? Failing that, would it be worth while to pick up a cheap vcr with svideo out to transfer video tape? I'd like the highest quality possible.

Well Useing an Adapter to Convert the RCA/Composite Outputs from the VCR into S-Video will Not Give you a Better Quality Picture and will actually usually Cause you to recieve a Black & White Image....

If your VCR Only has RCA/Composite Outputs then you should use them as Convereting the Ouputs to S-Video won"t give you a better Picture...
If you use Good Quality EMI Insulated RCA Cables then you should get a Better Image than if you are useing Cheap Cables...I use Double EMI Insulated Gold Plated Cables and I get a Fairly Good Picture...

If you had a VCR with a S-Video Output You Could get a Better quality Signal than one useing RCA Outputs but I don"t know if it would be Worth Getting a VCR with S-Video Outputs, You could expect Better Quality if you Instead Invested the Money in a Better Capture Device Like For Instance a "Canopus ADVC-110" which Gives you the Best Bang for the Buck in Features and Capture Quality as it is an actual High Quality Analogue To Digital Converter that uses Hardware DV Compression and has Audio Lock so you never have Sync Problems and the Quality is Extremely Good but the device runs at about $250 US and is Specifly designed for Transfering VHS or any Analogue Video to your PC in High Quality DV AVI format without ever Dropping Frames or haveing Sync Problems even with the Most Dammaged VHS tapes....

Good luck
