Dear Reader,
this is a sort of checklist. go through this and many of your problems will be resolved. So, before you click Start New Thread pleeeeeeeeeese go through this and make life easier for yourself and everyone else.
In order play/make backups you must have the following:
1. Modification on your PS2 to play backups - Swap Magic or Mod Chip.
2. DVD-Writer with latest firmware.
3. High quality media to burn your backups. Taiyo Yuden, Maxells and
Verbatims are all top-notch media. For more info on media see http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341
4. The right type of software such as dvd decrypter/Nero/Alcohol 120.
5. Decent computer which is able to undertake dvd burning for optimum results. ( 1 Gig processor, 256 mb RAM would do fine.)

Other things to keep in mind:
1. You MUST read the forum rules: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487
2. Be polite to everyone whether newbie or addict. NEVER use abusive language.
3. Do not use all caps. for it is considered SHOUTING.
4. Do not highjack anyone's elses thread. If you have a question start your own thread, that is obviously if that has not been answered before in the forum.
5. If you have any information, SHARE it. don't be shy.
6.Above all, write in the right forum. if its about CD game then the CD backup discussion, if DVD then the DVD backup discussion forum.
Well, thats it. Enjoy your time here.
Ok, i know this a terrible guide with all sorts of flaws. thats why i need your help. any suggestion is welcome. tell me what to add and delete. just don't be harsh, this is my first attempt to write a "guide".
And by the way, if you found this useful then without any doubt the credit goes to the entire AfterDawn fraternity and in particular to Alkohol, Tokijin, Paddymail, 3Dluis , Steimy, Hursty and the lack of space prevents me from mentioning all other AfterDawn greats.
take care.
Yours sincerely,
Sulaim

wow, honorable mention :)
here a few things you can add if you like
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html (DVD Decrypter Tut)
http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php (the firmware page)great site.
Best 2 mochips are DMS4 Pro & Matrix Infinity (due to flash upgrades)
Other good media, Philips, Ritek, TDK
Most common DVD's i think would be DVD-R 8X speed burned at 4X
Burning at half the speed of your DVD speed is most common
shut down all programs and do not use PC when burning
for best results, this includes anti virus software that runs in the backround.
ver nice guide, hope they will make a stick for you.

Yep, I second the thanks for the mention as a "great"... LOL... I would never describe myself that way... but thanks anyway :)
Can't think what else you could put in here really, you pretty much covered it with linking to good guides/stickies etc.. except maybe places to download often mentioned programs etc??? that would be a sticky for sure... like "looking for programs.. get them here" and list multiple places that you can get the same program.
good work man

Yep, very nice guide, covers pretty much all you need to know, one thing you should mention is the YFiX region converter, as people often complain about not being able to find this, that and the DNAS utilities, but apart from that, good helpful guide!

Something along the lines of "everything noobs should know about burning"... but they probably still won't read it.. some are just too plain lazy and want answers to their very important questions that they think nobody's asked before.

I especially like how my FAQ is first on the list lol. Good guide Sulaim. It's good see people like yourself make contributions to AD. See how much you've learned in a short time. This definitely should be stickied.

I hope they do start reading these stickies... it's getting really annoying seeing the same posts all the time.. "how do I get my PAL game to work on my NTSC console" + "I have these files, not an iso" or "I followed the guide, but I have gotten another big rar file"... that one really cracks me up!!! LOL
