when u put in a hard drive upgrade it wont work without a mod chip ...right? so if i have the hard drive upgrade in the xbox can i put in a mod chip in for it to work?

A softmodded XBOX can have an upgraded (larger) hdd w/o using a modchip. It is easier to do it with a chip, depending on the chip, because newer chips like Xecuter and Xenium allow you to format the hdd right there inside the xbox.

So no, a chip is not needed to increase the hdd size within an XBOX.
