this is my plans for a hard drive using SDloader method i call it SD-MD. i am pasting it here put without the pictures, to download my plans with pics click this link.

SD-MD Design for Game Cube
Project Micro Drive

Project SD-MD stands for Project Secure Digital to Micro Drive.
This is a very simple yet practical idea for a game cube hard drive solution.
This method is mainly based upon the SDloader method on the cube.
How this will work is a new code, alternate bios or a way to convert ISO images for play with the current SD loader. If this can not be done with the current codes we have, a new one may need to be written that allows ISO images to be played of a SD card, heres where it gets different, after getting inspired by the PSP scene I couldn?t help but think a SD to CF or SD to another mass storage device could be a very good idea for use on the game cube scene and this will act as the hard drive.
(My idea is sort of like Datels 4GB HDD for the PSP but for the cube)

Mod Chip Method

QOOB Pro The dol file that accesses the SDloader menu can be flashed to
& on board memory and booted when starting up the cube. Then
Viper Extreme in the menu an ISO can be selected and played

QOOB SX
VIPER CHIP The SDloader ISO and be burnt to make a bootable disk to
NINJA MOD access the SDloader menu
RIPPER
XENO GC

Soft Mod Method

PSO Using the broad band adapter load up the SDloader dol

MDP put the SDloader dol file in the max drive pro boot it up and
quickly put the SD adapter in Slot A

Action Replay Method

Write the big ass code and enjoy
SD-MD
Project

What will be needed?

Secure digital memory card adapter

SD to CF converter

Micro Drive / Compact Flash Card

A Bios or patch to allow ISO to be played from the SD card

SD-MD
Project

Diagrams:

SD-MD
Project

Backing up games:

The games will be backed up using the Broad Band Adapter either using the PSO method or via a mod chip. The ISO will be sent to the computer it will be quite large in size but as it will be playing via the hard drive you can safely remove all garbage data to make room for as many games as possible as there won?t be any Disk Read Errors.

Once you have the ISO you want to put on the Micro Drive you can put the card in a USB card reader and transfer at USB 2.0 speeds and then attach it back to the cube and play.

Other Possibilities of the Micro Drive:

? Mp3 play back
? Linux
? Movie Playback
? Emulators
? Possibility of a game ripper to the Micro Drive

Advantages:

? No need to buy a new mod chip or get a mod chip
? No external power supplies needed
? No more Disk Read Errors
? Easy to use

Disadvantages:

? Sacrifices a memory port
? Compact flash cards may be expensive

SD-MD
Project

Summary:

Out of all the game cube hard drive solution I have seen on the internet I believe mine is the most believable, simplest, and easiest. There will be the matter of running ISO?s of the SD card but once that is sorted out this idea will go down like a house on fire. It leaves all sorts of possibilities open and it?s only limited by your imagination on what you can do with it. All other hard drive plans I have seen are trying to go through the high speed port and they will spend all year just to program the code to get that working but mine is very simple idea with very big possibilities.

Thank you, for reading this and I really hope this will become a reality soon.

if anyone has any suggestions how this could be improved or anything i have missed out please comment back..

I was thinking of a different approach, using a GBA adapter and taking it apart.Keep the high-speed ports attached, but literally strip out the board already inside. It measures only 1 inch so the case would have to be modified the top can be kept though. It comes with an installer disc for it,which would give you info on the high-speed ports.I was thinking basically you could solder IDE cables to adapt with the high-speed ports or create a board that utilizes the high-speed ports. You would have direct current flow meaning power is always supplied, and anytime you have the adapter hooked to the ports it would automatically give you access to the harddrive stored to the adapter.Study what is present on the GBA installer disc then modify it to format the drive and install a hacked bios. The bios would have to be setup to pickup the ideal formats first.Once accomplished additional features can be added such as:

Store GC backup images from your Originals
Launch the images .DOL or .ISO format (would have to look at a Bios for this, but if Linux is installed you can setup the boot package)

Then maybe in the future somebody could come up with a way of transfering the stored images to your PC desktop with cross cable or direct cable from the harddrive.I think that will probably be the hardest task to accomplish that is why I say maybe in the future.

The SDCard method only limits you to a small portion of space, but by using this technique you can get as much space needed and alot cheaper. It isn't easier to do,but you would benefit from the method I described more than you would with SDCards.I think anyway you look at it you will have to code to get any of it to work no matter what method you look at.I'm not sure what High-Speed port methods you looked at,because I only seen one.I have seen others that solder directly to the motherboard and so far have been unsuccessfull or either run into problems later on.Trust me the High-Speed ports are the answer, but would take alot more work to accomplish.

hmm i see where you are comming from there the high speed port does sound like a good option espesially if it can bee hooked up to a laptop HDD but mine is still just a suggestion of how this could work through a memory port, it would be great if the memory port idea i have thought of could be hooked up to something like a laptop HDD or a usb HDD but you would need external power supply unless i get a double adapter and where the powersuply wire is i make another route to the HDD as well as the powersupply. i did say or another mass storage device so hopefully it will mean a HDD if some one knows of an adapter or something. but if the guy can create SD loader to play DOL files i cant see a reason he cant make it play ISO aswell or a version of a hacked GcoS that has SD explorer or sumthing. i know a version of ninja mod has something like this but i dunno what it does..

well i thought of how my method could be used for an external usb hard drive...

the sd adapter has a sd to sd adapter and the adapter plaugs into the sd memory card and the other end of the sd adapter plugs into a SD usb reader with this port it will give the cube a USB port so with a female-female port you can attach a external USB hard drive. ill try draw a diagram

.______................................................___________...
.|.SD..|...............................................|..........|..
.|.GC..|........................._______...............|...USB....|..
.|.....|./-----..........-----\..|.SD..|...............|...HDD....|..
.|.....|.|<.SD.|________|.SD.>|..|.USB..=.|========|..=|..........|..
.|_____|.|____________________|..|_____|.double female.-----------..............................................USB....................
male usb is = at the end of the SD card reader and USB HDD

the USB HDD would also need its own powersupply

sorry about all the .'s if i dont put them in there the whole thing compacts and looks like nothing

grrr it is so hard to do this ive edited this thing heaps and i cant get it to look any good...........

I need to pickup a GBA adapter before applying my schematics.I don't really think hooking it up is going to be the problem though.I need to find someone that can code to help me out or nothing will get accomplished on my part.

dont ask any one on GCDev they are a bunch of fags as soon as they get the hint ur going to use it for back ups they will tell u to get stuffed, so i cant really ask the guy who wrote SDloader for any help. i dont get it that fag wont make a version or another OS that plays them through SD port but hr will make it play dol files which can be used for back ups. he keeps saying i dont want to support piracy but creating SDloader was for piracy so that faggot contradicts himself.... Homebrew development my ass

Just thought I'd wish you luck since it sounds like an interesting idea.
