Hello,

I've been having problems getting my copied DVDs to play in my Cyberhome DVD player (ch-dvd 300). I'm using sony dvd+r media with the following information.

Basic Information
Disc Type: : DVD+R
Book Type : DVD+R
Manufacturer: : unknown
MID : SONY D21 (000)
Write speeds: : 2.4 X - 4 X - 6 X - 8 X - 10 X - 12 X - 14 X -16X

The problem doesn't seem to be the media. All the copies work fine in my philips DVD player and in my PS2 as well. I've burned about ten movies with this media in the DVD-ROM format and about 3 work in the Cyberhome DVD player and the rest don't. For the heck of it I burned "Punch Drunk Love" in the DVD-ROM format and then in the DVD+R format and only the one in the DVD+R format works. However, the other discs that work in the Cyberhome are DVD-ROM. I've tried burning other movies in the DVD+R format and those don't work on the Cyberhome. It's almost like each movie is different.

I know the CYberhome DVD player isn't the best quality but it seems to play original DVD's fine and has no problem playing Verbatim burned discs.

I use DVD shrink and Nero to burn. Can anyone offer some insight???

Sme players don't playcertain media despite the quality. Plyers are finicky like that sometimes but may I suggest booktyping your DVD+R discs to dvd-rom the next time you burn which will make it more compatible with more players. Using dvd-decryptor you can change the DVD+R dics to booktype to dvd-rom. Maybe somebody will give you the exact instructions! Also post what type burner you have so people can check to see if it can booktype!

i have a couple of Cyberhom ch-dvd 400's and they're awesome little players, they play everything. i predominately use -R format but booktyped +R (to dvd-rom) work fine too. i think you've almost answered your own question when you say the Verbatim play fine.

also, you seem to be saying you do booktype some of the discs, for +R you should always booktype them to dvd-rom else it's not worth using +R.

I guess I really don't know what kind of burner it is. It's what I got when I bought it.

The description when I choose that drive is:

No it doesn't. It looks like the product code matches though. It's got to be the same thing, just looks different.

Gateway must use that type of burner and then just change the way it looks for it to match the rest of the tower.

Have you tried calling Gateway support for any possible firmware upgrades? It just might be that Cyberhome is picky about those +R formats.

@scubabud

I downloaded a firmware upgrade. What exactly is that going to do for me? I'm assuming that the firmware could have been part of the problem however it may not have been. Is that correct?

the firmware teaches your burner how to interact (burn) with certain types of media...having the most up to date firmware for your specific drive USUALLY helps it in burning to the newer medias out there...ie. the 8x and 16x rated media in either format...also, if you are using an older burner (meaning one that burns max @ let's say 4x or 8x...firmware update is a NECESSITY in terms of burning onto the faster rated discs...) without proper firmware, the older drives will not even recognize or detect certain media you use...:)
