Okay ... let's address the ACCUCORE name ... Someone either at Sony or contracted by Sony came up with this term as an advertising gimmick ... a good one, I have to admit.
It stands for ACCUrate COmpatibility and REliability
Now ... are the discs -R or +R? And, are they made in Japan or Taiwan? Also, did you pay more than 30¢ apiece for them?
The Sony discs that are made in Japan in the -R and the +R formats are both top notch discs ... you'd have to go aways to top them ... If they're made in Taiwan .. well the +R discs are pretty good (in my opinion) but the -R discs (again, in my opinion) leave me a little short of being satisfied ...
To determine where your discs were made, look on the outer wrap (usually near the bar code) and you will find in small lettering either 'Made in Japan' or 'Made in Taiwan'
Finally, if you paid 30¢ each or less and got made in Japan discs ... congradulations!!! You are a winner in the disc buying game

DVD Identifier reported me that my Sony discs were manufactured by Philips. So I consider that the quality is more than acceptable since I only use Verbatim and Philips for my projects. For DL discs I use only certified speeds, which in the meantime are 2,4X for both the above manufactures. Any way I' m limited to 4X speed even for SL discs which ensures me the compatibility for all my stand alone DVD players (older and newer).

Philips, while being a respected name in manufacturing electronic components, makes grade D+ DVDs ...

which is every single DVD, both single and DL made

it's MID coding, not MDI...but, nevertheless...download dvd identifier here...and put one of your Sony branded discs and run the media scan...
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
this program will tell you the ACTUAL manufacturer of your Sony branded media...good or bad, that will be determined once you copy and paste what you get from the readings on dvd identifier... :)
also, i 2nd catfreak's opinion of Philips media...it's seriously NO BETTER than CMC MAGs...Philips should really stick to their electronics' division of manufacturing, cuz they STINK when it comes to dvd media~ :)
