I'm tiring to make a choice on which 4x DVD-R to purchase. I'm somewhat confused as to why Pioneer's 4x cost so much more than let?s say Meritline's DVD's. I've read all the info I can find on these DVD's and I can't seem to find a reason.

The real reason why some cost more is b/c pioneer is least likely to freeze up near the end of the movie...and has a 120 yr lifespan as opposed to 100 ...:) Although thats not to say that meritline is bad at all...they are very high quality and they are a good bang for ur buck...i only had 1 freeze up so far.

Didn't know that. Well, I think 100 years is good enough for me. I also didn't know that freeze up towards the end of the movie was a common problem. I've had that happen only once also but I've only been burning movies for a short while. Thanks Neromania

I have found that the freezing is caused by the player itself. I'm so tired of hearing about the media excuse.

Not so true motions1. If the dvd's freeze, almost always its the poor quality of the media, not the players. Vivastar dvd-r's freeze on 4 dvd players I tested but Universal don't while playing the same movie. Hows that the players fault?

I use Princo, which most people hate. After having the freeze problem I bought Ritek which everyone loves. BIG mistake. Made many coasters with Ritek AND they will not store as much data. You have to be under 4GB for a good burn.

I got the Toshiba SD-4800 player and it plays everything with no freezing. Even the ones that ALWAYS froze on my AKAI.

That's just my experience though. I urge you to have your own.

I agree with Doom, I also use Universal... great media... never fail on me... Ritek they are ok, buy them once a while but everyone runs out of stock once a while seems like their manufacture is not table?... oppose to cheap cxxppy Princo... do they ever improve? I know the old ones made by TDK is good but they don't make them anymore =(
