Is Memory Card NTSC / PAL dependent?

Hi folks,

I have an NTSC Gran Turismo 4 and gamesaves on a Memory Card. My NTSC PS2 in now in Europe and my GT4 DVD(NTSC) got killed. I'd like to chip the PS2 to be able to play a burned PAL GT4 DVD and the question is:
will the savegames made under NTSC GT4 DVD work when loaded onto a PAL GT4 DVD?

In general: does loading save games from NTSC onto same game's PAL version work?

You have to convert the saves first.
