This probably doesn't belong in here, but I just want some opinions.

Are those DVD optical cleaners with the small rubber brushes actually safe to use on your burners as well as players (standalone).

I consider those hard lens cleaning discs as a last resort.

I've burned over 2300 dvd's in my original Benq 1620 and she's going as strong as day 1. No cleanings.I just make sure all discs inserted in her are clean and lint free.

I ruined my first stand alone player-RCA-because the manual said to clean the lens every 10 hrs or so of operation. About 6 months later, after the warranty expired-she puked.

Unless you are having issues with a certain drive,I don't recommend using them.Strictly last resort, before a replacement drive.

OK, thanks. Was just looking around my local tech store and happened to notice them. They didn't look very safe to me LOL.

So far so good, not having any trouble with either my burner or my standalone. I too make sure that everything I put in my electronics is clean before it goes in.

That includes video game decks as well.

It's nice having one around. I had issues with my sony dvp-ns-325 player. That player would play anything I threw at it from 6 different pc burners and a tv burner.

After about a year,it had freezing issues. So after ruling out all possibilities,I used that lens cleaning disc. It helped considerably, until my first Dual layer backup. A cheap $35 magnavox player took care of that issue.
