As you guess, I'm trying to convert a DVD into a mpg file. I first ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter and I checked the .IFO file, it shows the video perfectly on all levels.

1) First problem, after running DVD2AVI, I get a .ac3 file instead of a .wav one. But then TMPGEnc doesn't want it. Is it normal that I end up with a .ac3 file?
Anyway,I then used AC3Tool to convert the .ac3 file into a .wav one. and ran DVD2AVI again. It worked.

2) But... after running TMPGEnc, ok I get the mpg video, image and sound are fine... Except that they don't run exactly together! I tried several times (the whole process from DVD2AVI actually)and each time the sound is either a bit too early or a bit too late...

I have no idea if the problem comes from DVD2AVI, AC3Tool or TMPGEnc and I don't know how to fix it. Would be grateful if I got some help...

Well to get DVD2AVI to Give you a "Wav" file instead of an AC3 file you simple go into the "Audio" menu and set it to "Decode to Wav"...

Also if your VOB files are From a NTSC DVD then you should go into "Video" to "Field Operations" and set it to "Forced Film" and then Make your D2V file....

Now you should have a D2V and wav file that you can encode in TMPGEnc and that should Sync up Correctly after encodeing....

What Type of Mpeg file are you makeing??? Is it For VCD or SVCD or DVD ???

I'm glad I can get the .wav files so easily now (and sorry for not having found the way myself... to look into Audio was the obvious thing to do though... LOL)

Now yes my original DVD is NTSC. I tried the "Forced film" option; the sync is definitely better but unfortunately not quite right yet...

The type: I chose the VCD option when I ripped it but I don't need to burn any CD. I want Mpeg files to use clips from them in short videos I make with Windows movie maker.
Why do you ask? Do you thing I'd get a better quality if I chose the SVCD option?

Yes, MPEG-2 is Better quality but I don"t know if Windows Movie Maker will accept the Files....

If you Increase the Resolution and the encodeing bitrate you will get Better quality Files...If you Put the resolution up to 720x480 and set the bitrate to about 6000kbs then the Files will be Much better quality and in turn the file you create in Windows Movie Maker will be better quality...

Also when you use the "Forced Film" option in DVD2AVI you then also have to encode your D2V File to Mpeg at 23.976fps because useing Forced Film changes the Frame rate to 23.976fps.....
