Just for an example, a new BenQ1655 LightScribe Burner from Newegg.com is $55 and can burn up to 16x. There are many quality burners that are under $40, less then a package of DVD media. I would suggest moving up to a new burner soon since I fear that there will not be a newer firmware update for your current 2x burner.

You can back up movies, I have owned many burners and have not found one that does not work. As Scuba Bud stated go on over to NewEgg best prices on drives.

I use TY media 8X and burn ALL my movies at 8X. Quality scans are always 97 or better and usually 99-100.
