Decrypter, Shrink, and XCopy all have obsolete decryption software. If free is a must, go for DVDFab Decrypter of DVD43. If you want the best get AnyDVD. You can get a 3 week trial at http://www.slysoft.com/ Once it expires, you have to buy it. But you get to check your problem free with the trial. If it's a physical problem with the disc, you can check that by doing a read scan with Nero DVD CD Speed or with DVDInfoPro (free).

Also try VOBblanker, also free. Free progies have worked for me so far every week. I would only buy something if I absolutely have to. Software ought to be free, opensource baby. Down with capitalism. Everyone grows when information is free.

Yep, down with capitalism, as though someone didn't pay for the PC the message is posted with. I don't see the state paying for making the movies that everyone seems fond of either. VobBlanker takes more time and can lead to errors. Take a look at other threads and you'll see people don't always get it right with VobBlanker. I'm not against freeware, but free doesn't always mean easy. For novices, I always suggest the easy way. Besides, the problem was already solved.

I am encountering the same problems with Zorro. I have AnyDVD, and after using DVD Shrink, I still get the no-start and stutter. What am I missing?

Try draging your video files to the desktop then use shrink.

Sounds like a different set of problems to me, as you say "... after using Shrink...". As long as AnyDVD is installed and the red fox icon is on the taskbar, it's more than likely doing it's job. I'm not sure what step in the backup process you're at with Shrink. So, what is stuttering and not starting?

In quikstang's situation, he was using DVD Decrypter to decrypt and rip his files to the hard drive. AnyDVD took over the decryption and Decrypter merely recorded to the HD for him. HD files transfer to backup software faster and more smoothly than from an optical drive. Reading from a DVD on a drive can slow down and cause read problems with the hardware in some cases. Try using DVD Decrypter to rip to the HD and then open the files in Shrink and see how it turns out.
