Naaa, still have to purchase a DVD legally to back it up. No purchy, no backy upy. Nobody in these forums will dare back up rented material. It's against the law.

Aside from the anti-piracy talk. I want to hear more about these red discs.
Does it code to anything?
What does the inner hub say?
What size (gb) is it?
Will you make a scan of the red part and post a picture?
Where is ze map, Dr. Jones?!

The red disc is a micro dye pack. Kinda like what bank tellers put in the withdrawl bags of those that don't have an account but withdrew money anyway. If the disc is copied, the micro dye pack will rupture, leaving your burner soaked in red dye. Also, the dye may ooze out and cover other components of your computer or cause a motherboard meltdown. Just kidding! I'm trying to tap into my creative side (or lack therof).
Maybe it would be best to discard this thread and start a new post without any refernces to rentals, etc.

LOL, nice try rd- as the links provided explain. It's Sony's arcoss protection encryption. AnyDVD 5.8.2 cuts through it like butter. Size isn't an issue. If shrink won't back it up. Use Slysofts CopyDVD2. Works fine with that.

Just get some silver nail polish or spray paint it silver again.....but make sure to get paint thinner or acetone to remove the silver before you bring it back to Blockbuster.

Yeah, forgot about the BB chip....can you put the disc in the microwave after re-coating it silver? Or do you need to put it in while it's red???.....must be an easier way....
