I have downloaded a DVD Decryptor, Image Burn and DVD Shrink. I still cannot get anything to work. Every time I try to burn it says it's copy protected. I have tried everything and I don't know what to do.
tiffanym,
I've gotten this message/error from shrink when I first run shrink then insert the DVD I want to backup. Try inserting the DVD in your drive first and play the movie for about 5seconds with media player, stop playback, close media player and then run shrink. Doing this all the time when trying to backup a DVD has stopped this from occuring for me.
As far as needing nero, well that depends on what format your files are in after ripping the DVD.
If you use DVDdecrypter in file mode (this will create file extensions of .vob, .ifo, and .bup), then yes nero will be needed to burn them to disk if you keep the files in this format, you could also use Roxio, or Slysoft's CloneDVD.
If you use DVDshrink to create a file folder when backing up(VIDEO_TS folder containing your video files with the same extensions as above), the same as above also applies.
If you don't want to use nero, you can use the burners you already have and use them to burn an ISO image to disk instead. DVDdecrypter has an ISO burning engine as part of it, Imgburn is also used to burn ISO images to disk.
There are several ways to do this:
If using decrypter choose..mode-->file, decrypter will read the disk/decrypt/ and create a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD.
Once done, run shrink and choose open files (find the VIDEO_TS folder, highlight it and open, you can do a full backup or re-author), when backing up choose to save target as ISO image and burn with DVD decrypter. Decrypter will automatically launch and burn your backup.
NOTE: you can also use ISO read mode in decrypter to create an ISO image, but when opening .iso file with shrink choose File-->open disk image.
If using just shrink, when backing up choose to save target as "ISO image and burn with DVD decrypter", here again Decrypter will automatically launch and burn your backup.
Note: you can also choose to save target as "ISO image", shrink will put the file on you HDD for burning manually with decrypter(choose mode-->ISO write) or use ImgBurn.
