Hi, ok I'm new to this site and just spent a couple of hours searching around. Everyone on this site seems quite willing to offer help to people of all expereiences. Anyway just to let you guys know I have the mac G5 with intel duo processors, and its the first Mac I have owned. If anyone would be so kind as to help me it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here's What I'm Trying To Do:

Copy/Burn my personally owned DVD's in order to Create some Back-up copies.

From what I understand I need three seperate programs...one to remove the Copyright Protection.....one to compress the Files and one to burn the files.

I have downloaded MacTheRipper and DvDShrink. My computer which came with Imovie and Idvd. I also purchased Memorex DVD+R 4.7 GB discs.

What Else do I need to get to burn my dvd's, What DVD's should I buy for best quality/price and if possible how exactly do I get started

Well thanks for your time, hopefully someone can help me with this

Cheers

Rule of thumb, stay away from Memorex media. Once you do a search here on aD about media you will find out soon enough. Anyway maybe this post will bump your thread along. Also, at the bottom of my sig is a link with many other links and guides that should help you as well. :)

There is a special Mac section here at AD. Many of us use the Windows OS as much of the Software is written for it. I'm not sure if the programs we use a lot will work on the Mac OS. However I can give you the process and you can run down the software for your Mac. Factory DVD movies are encrypted, so you need a decryption utility. Windows uses AnyDVD, DVDFab Decrypter, DVD43 and others. I use AnyDVD along with DVD Decrypter to rip a "clean" source to he HD. There are DVD5 and DVD9 media to record to. If the source is over 4.37GB and the target media is DVD5, then you need to encode. DVD Shrink is the freeware app that can do the job well. Shrink has decryption software, but it is out of date. You'll just have to check to see what will work on the Mac. With DVD9, the DL, you can record 1:1. Once you encode or otherwise have your source ready to burn, it's just a matter of getting the files in the burner software. Shrink with it's supported burners can be set to do the job without user intervention. Most of the encoders we use can be set to create an output file on the HD. That way it can be burned with most any burner software. Good luck and check out the Mac section.

Just as a matter of interest, your system has the Intel processor. Can you set it up for a multiple boot system, so you can use the Mac OS and Windows XP? That would be similar to Windows users setting up a second boot partition with Linux. If you could do that, you'd be able to use apps written for both OS(s). Mac said they had no intention of supporting such a setup, but I was wondering if any of the aftermarket wonders had tackled the issue.
