i just started to think about burning discs that are encrypted and i thaught about doing so , but with rental discs. does any1 know if they can find out if i made a copy of it?

I can tell you this much I am a state law enforcement officer in the state of florida if you get caught selling copywrighted DVD's anywhere in the US you will be prossecuted in federal court for breaking federal copywright laws this is nothing that they play with.
making backup copies of your personally owned DVD's can be questioned but is not illegal. Be carefull what you post on public forums there are programs that key in on specific questions, statements, and searches.

A big NO-NO - no matter what state your in as jdawg01 said . Follow the others advice here - even backing up your own originals is questionable.
Just remember if your willing to play you better be willing to pay (and the paying in case might be pretty steep!)
