When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.

Jallan

I just called my local CircuitCity and the ones they have are +R MIT, not the MIJ :(

Still good media and good price though.

I find that very surprising since I've never seen a 50pk that is MIT.

I called my nearest CC, also ... they're all MIT both the +R and the -R

This really isn't unusual even for the 50 packs ... Best Buy has 50 packs that are MIT regularly ... in fact, I think that the MIJ Sonys are getting more and more uncommon ...

Let me know if you get a different response. :)

This is the store that I've always purchased my Sony Media from over a year ago before changing to TY. Saugmon will recall my bringing up great results with the MIT media as do my prior threads from a while back. Maybe it's a local distributor thing, but I can assure you, they are MIT, at least that's what I was just told.

Thanks :)

I find that very depressing and foresee CMC Magnetics taking over and flooding the market with the worst possible media simply because they bid lower than Taiyo Yuden.. *depressed*

I called the closest CC and they were out of the 50pk +Rs, so obviously I couldn't find out whether they were MIJ/T.

This is becoming upsetting.

@ ScubaBud ... I doubt that we have the same distributer since I'm in Indiana ... I just think that the MIT give Sony a better chance to compete with the other guys and still make money ...

At least the MIT +R Sony discs are still pretty good

Good point Catfreak. In another thread members were talking about Sam's club and a 75 pack, 50 being MIJ and 25 being MIT. I've always had great success with either of the two with Q scores in the 95-97 range. But DocTY got me hooked on TY's and that's all I've purchased for the last few months. I was just trying to get a bargain on those MIJ's if I could. :)

@ ScubaBud  KMart has sales on FujiFilm discs quite often and I've had really great getting MIJ +R discs (I call 'em Fuji/Yuden) there ... sometimes they will price match Best Buy etc ... especially if you give them the old "but I'd really rather spend my money here" routine ...

Never seen a Sony 50-pack DVD Made in Taiwan? Go to Staples - that's all they sell of Sonys. Same with Best Buy.

I went to the Best Buy yesterday, and all the +R 50 packs they had were made in Taiwan ... and out of 10 or so -R 50 pacls all I found was 2 made in Japan ... pretty typical lately

Best Buy wants $40 for 50 Sony discs right now .. kinda steep

Did find 3 25 packs of Fuji +R that were MIJ for $7.99 and swooped on them and got a raincheck for the +R Verbs

hehe, i'm all bout getting people hooked...LOL...i'm Taiyo Yuden's aphrodisiac in media circles...hehe

anyways, that's the main problem when you go looking for media locally, sometimes you FIND what you are looking for...but other times, you get all mad because when you get there, all you find are the MIT spindles that are definitely NOT going to be the Taiyo Yudens you initially set out to find~ :)

and with manufacturers changing so frequently, regardless of which BRAND you buy, you just NEVER KNOW until you get them home and identify them properly...you might get lucky, or you might not...

but, for most people, purchasing media locally is much more convenient than buying online...you save on the shipping costs as well and also get to peruse everything else they have at the brick & mortar stores while you're there... :)

but, the advantages of buying online, at least for ME is...

1. buying from reputable online outlets you are GUARANTEED to receive what you paid for, despite the higher price...you don't need to waste your time sifting through endless spindles looking for the "made in japan"..and even if you DO find a few mixed in with the MIT, you are STILL not 100% assured that they are the Taiyo Yudens until you get home and check em' out~ companies/brands CAN and DO change manufacturers at a moment's notice...you won't know for yourself until you get home and see for yourself...

2. the selection: if you KNOW what you are looking for before you even begin searching, then online e-tailers will have a MUCH better selection than any local stores...whether you fancy Verbatims, inkjet printables, Taiyo Yudens, full-hub printables, 4x rated, 8x rated, 16x rated, etc..etc... 99% of the time, at a large media retailer such as supermediastore.com or rima.com, they will blow ANY local stores' selection of media right out of the water...

3. my final reason why i prefer to shop online for media : i can sit at home and have it delivered RIGHT TO MY DOORSTEP... :) that means, i don't have to get dressed to go out, don't have to pay for high prices of gasoline to get to my destination, deal with california Los Angeles traffic that is HELL, deal with idiots IN STORES that have no clue what's going on and waiting in line for my purchase; besides, my UPS driver knows me now, so, i get special "attention" to on-time delivery to my place of residence... :0

with all the PERSONAL factors weighed in MY equation, i will often times opt to "pay a little more for shipping" to be guaranteed 100% that i WILL receive exactly what i paid for...and since i'm in LA; supermediastore, newegg, rima, meritline, etc..etc.. are ALL located actually within about an hour's drive time away from me, so i get my deliveries usually NEXT DAY once they ship it out~ :)

this is obviously only in MY CASE, the only thing i can't avoid is paying sales tax of 8.25% or 8.75% depending on WHERE in CA they are shipping from...so that naturally ADDS to the total cost of my media whereas out of state buyers don't pay the sales tax~ :)

ok..enough of my rant...if Taiyo Yudens are what you are looking for, i would strongly suggest buying online from a REPUTABLE retailer, this saves the hours of headache and disappointment you MIGHT encounter if either Fuji or Sony change their manufacturers for their branded media unexpectedly :)

docTy~

The problem I have with buying on-line is threefold, Doc ...

First, I'm into INSTANT gratification

Secondly, It's much harder to be a pain in the rear to salespeople on-line

and Third, I do have to get out and about from time to time. And I can get one of my daughters to drive me around ... a good excuse to spend time with them

My local staples had both the taiwanese and japanese Sony +1x-8x accurcore in last weeks sale in the 50 pack spindles.

I just got back from wal-mart,and they also had both japanese and taiwanese spindles sitting on their shelfs. For $25 a spindle at wallworld, way too much.

Best Buy will probably be the same, all those spindles all mixed together just waiting to be sorted.

I have no Idea where the nearest Circuit City is,but like other stores-they should have both all mixed together.

On the plus format sony in the 8x speed: Very good from both japan and taiwan. Someone posted last week that some of the taiwanese sony were coding as Lead data.Just another reason to find the japanese spindles.

I have the Taiwan discs and very disappointed to find this out. I haven't burned anything with them hoping that I can exchange them. The discs identify as SONY-D11-00. Has anyone done any research on these to find out if the quality is still just as the good as the TY id's on the MIJ discs?

My set top LiteOn LVW-5005 recorders like the MIT Sony +R discs best ... but
my BenQ DW1640 gets better scans with the MIJ +R Sony/Yudens

To sum it up:
made in Japan Sony/Yudens ... A+ media
made in Taiwan Sony/Sony .... B+/A- media

can't argue with your reasoning...hehe, we all have our own reasons to purchase online or to go shopping locally~ :) your 3 reasons makes sense to me...and good reasons they are.. :P

i also agree with catfreak's quality ranking on the Sony discs...
