I have a friend who helped me pick the old Plextor DVD player/burner from the stack of readily available hardware. He also supplied me with DVD XCopy, Platinum addition, to help me copy the movies I already own (actual truth), as well as some I haven't seen yet. Here's my problem, and please help me if you can, I have tried to rip several movies now and though the download process seems to work, once I hit start after the blank DVD is in (to start copying) I get an Error message. Can anyone help me to get this thing back on track? My buddy, who fancies himself a hacker, is befuddled; any help would be doubly appreciated. Thanks.

Well since you don't have a 'legit' dvd x xopy and the fact that it's pretty much outdated try something else.
Here's some free ones that will handle the latest copy protections out there and not very hard: DvdFab Decrypter(rip)/shrink(encode)/dvd decrypter (burn). Here's a link to a guide:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20DVDFABDecrypter,S...
This link will also give or direct you to the dl's for the progs (software sections):
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html
Without the error message I can only guess - maybe you didn't pick the drive to burn w/ before your started xcopy process?
And your buddy fancies himself as a hacker - xcopy????? Seriously though hacking is against the forum rules. Plus there's free stuff available that's more updated!!!

i agree with blinkie dvd x copy is not one of the best programs to use. like blinkie said try the free programs he mentioned they will do most of the dvds out. there is also another program called AnyDVD this is not free but you can get a 21 day free trial you still need the other programs but AnyDVD removes the very latest copy protections. as for your hacker friend i would just look on here in future for any advice as everytime i have had an issue with a disc i have never failed to find the answers on afterdawn. also make sure you buy quality media as cheap media can cause a lot of problems. check out the dvd+/- forums for advice on what is the best media to use.
hope this helps

Thanks to both of you. I haven't had a chance to check the programs out yet, hopefully tonight, but appreciate the help. I'll let you know how it turns out and I'll definitely be here for any problems in the future. Thanks again.
