I was wondering when you install the chip do at more solder to the solder points or do u just apply the solder iron directly to those points?I was wondering beacause i havent read anything about soldering and it looks like solder already built in.

You need to apply your own solder. The chip doesn't haven't have any solder on it already. The bits that look like they might be solder are contact points.

Some reviews have said it best to put a little bit of solder on the contact points before installation of the chip. I didn't though, I just droped a little solder down each point (after taping down the chip so it couldn't move).

It's a good idea to get some de-soldering braid incase you get solder accross the legs on the chip (like me). And check out the soldering guide here. http://modthatcube.pxn-os.org/content/solder/index.html

stir fry, how's your xeno chip running? I'm going to get mine soon I think, eurasia told me that it's roughly one week for airmail to arrive at my place (Canada) from Thailand.

Tempest encountered some issues of games not booting due to dre, just thought I'll ask you if you're experiencing the same.

I had to send my dvd-writer back to LG for repair so I haven?t been able to make any backups yet. Annoying, I?ve got some isos, got my mini-dvd-rs, but no dvd-writer! I?ll probably burn a couple on a friends dvd-writer over the weekend and I?ll let you know what media/write speed etc works or doesn't.

The region free aspect of it works great (USA original games now work on UK machine).

Oh ok i see but do you add the solder to the places that look like solder or on the point?

well your goal is have the tin bridge the connection between the contacts, (the xeno chip to the drive board).

so do whatever that works best to have the tin touch the "soldered part on the chip to you even though its just the colour of the contact" and the location on the drive board.

make sure you don't have solder touching out of bound places, as it most likely will short something and you will be in trouble.

I have re-installed my xenoGC using wires (see maxconsole thread for details). I still have DREs at least on the one disc I tried , more testing is needed. I also added a switch to my install so I can shut of f power to the xeno and use GCoS for the games thqat do not run. yes - GCoS1.4 and 1.5 run the games that xenoGC cannot.

Gamecube: NTSC DOL-001 REV A - BIOS Rev 1.1 - Drive Model 04 2002/02 (61) - LaserPot = 183 ohms now tweaked to ~150
Mod Chip: XENOGC
Soft Mods(replaced by xenoGC, but still useful!): BBA, AR 1.07, SD Adapter, Samson's Loader Mem Card - GcoM2.3 for ripping
Burner/Media: NEC2100 (flashed to 2510) / Office Depot mini, Teon full size

you need to check your solder joints
with a high powered magnifing device if possible
GOOD LUCK!

most likely, the solder points are dead tiny.

Like stated above, check the connections. Most likely you soldered more than just that one wire to that one point. Magnifying glass will be VERY helpful here.

there are 6 in total, so yes all points are needed. you can also run wires just to be safe. I know I will when I get my xeno, I'm going to place it right on the opposite side of the fan so I see the leds in action.

I am sure most of you have seen this but just in case for those who have not and are getting ready to install
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=15098

If using wires get the lightest gage possible, I used 22 a (I think) for power and grond and if I was going to do another one I would use lighter Ga.
Good Luck to All!

tempest, do you think those thick red and black wires of yours can be replaced by the thin ones you used for the other points?

I realize the red and black are for power, but does the chip require that much power, in that those thick are needed?

thanks.

to be honest I do not know
Probably could be thinner.
Give it a try, if the wire you use is too small it probably will not hurt anything - the chip just wont work
Good luck

nsx88, I got my DVD-writer back last night and the Xeno GC is playing backups fine, although on some cut-scenes the sounds skips just a tiny bit - I think I'll have to adjust the POT a little more.

I'm using Ridata 8cm DVDs (Ebay), Nero 6, x2 x4 speeds both seem to work.

How are you getting on with yours?

I love your signature nsx88, if you really did you wouldn't be burning games.

Stir_Fry, hey man, my xeno just came in today, just installed it and the leds on the chip are glowing like they should be.

my originals play fine, right now I only have backed up one of my original onto one dvd-r, and can't get it to boot.

without touching the pot, I got to the screen for memory card check, but. this was at 310ohm, now its at 165ohm, still no luck, even worse than it was itially, guess I have to try other media or burner.

EDIT: it's the media, strangely enough I ended up increasing my pot to 356ohm compared to what it was originally. Ritekg04 (ridata mini), was then used and everything is up and running, not even a hiccup. just now I backed up a couple more games and guess what, all booted nicely and no dre whatsoever. just to comment on program used, nero it is.

I have to say this forum is the best as it has led me into understanding my doubts. thanks guys.

Same happened to me, turned the POT down, it got worse. Turned it up from it's original 227 to 300 and it now seems fine
