I keep downloading a movie only to find that I can t get the last 10-20Mb or that the last bit is corrupt. Annoying when youve sat and watched it dl for a couple of days (this is in emule). Is there any way of completing these movies and watching what I have dl so far as i will only be chopping off the credits or am i way off
No you are not asking a stupid question. There are 2 answers. If the movie is an .mpg file (unlikely) then you can just watch it as normal. If however it is an .avi file (most likely) then you need to 'repair' it. It needs to have an index, and this can be done by a piece of software called Divfix, which rebuilds the index. You can then watch it.
However if you want to d/l the last bit, you have to strip out the index again before you do - Divfix will do this as well.
You could try searching for it, failing that tell me your email address and I will send it to you. (It's only 265K).
Incidentally what connection are you? I used to use edonkey and gave it up as it was too slow. It could take 4-5 days sometimes. I now use Direct Connect and I've d/l whole films in a couple of hours.
Do you still have to have the whole file to watch it or can you effectively complete it and just watch it up to the point youve downloaded as everyone who has the movies seem to have corrupted copies.
No you don't need to have the whole of the movie. You can just run Divfix at any point and it should play what you have D/L so far, even if you have only D/L half of it. As long as you remember to 'strip' it before D/L some more.
Not sure what you mean by 'corrupted copy', I've taken about 50 films so far, and only one of those has been unplayable. Luck of the draw I guess.
hi what i do when downloading that many fake movies i used to use divfix to see if it was the right movie it was a load of poo it used to delete movies for no reason, so the best out there is avipreview just open avipreview find the file you want and it plays no stripping or rebuilding just plays whatever youve downloaded so far.. worth getting!!
However I use emule wi\hich stores its part dl files as a .part, .met and a .bak. I tried running divfix against the .part which I thought would be the avi but get an error saying it cant open the file. Tries changing it to an avi extension but no luck.
Any emule specific advice?
Thanks again, will try that out on dls from other p2p.
Right click and click preview file perhaps! Then when it is previewing, it will be in your temp folder, copy the file in there and paste it!
First though, make sure that you definately cant get the rest of the file, right click it in emule and click file details, check the availibility! if its 100% its there somewhere, any less and it could just be incomplete or nobody with the part you need is online!!
Remember when trying to preview that you have to stop the download first. Remember I said stop, DO NOT click cancel!!
