Strange looking DVD - Battlestar Galactica

I just bought Battlestar Galactica and want to back it up. When I opened it up, I found a very unsusal looking disc. It's silver on both sides, has two circles near the center, one says side A and the other side B. I thought it might be a double sided disk (I've heard about them, but never seen one) but if so, why is "side a" and "side b" on the same side of the disc? What the heck is this?

That is what some people around here call a flipper.
On one side you might have a full screen on the other a widescreen version. Check it out. :)
