It's taken me many sleepless nights and god-knows how many software programs, to get around the copyright and region protection, and around the crazy multi-lingual track setup for the *.vob files (doing so with DVD43Free and DVD shrink 3.1, so I could select only the English audio tracks) problem is now, that when I go to encode the dvd converts into DIVX *.avi's (with the AVS video converter) each movie freezes in the image for approximately 6-7 minutes, the audio runs fine, but the video is frozen. I've tried a single multi vob burn, I've tried splitting, tried copying the vob's one by one, but each time it freezes in the exact same place and for the exact same duration (eg. Star Wars I - Phantom Menace DVD freezes when Qui Gon Jin and Obi Wan Kenobi meet with the Jedi council for the first time, and later again when Aniken is brought before them at night, with Jin and Kenobi.)
Ok..... with all the lengthy preamble aside, can anyone tell me if this is a copyright protection glitch, a glitch in the AVS converter, or what? The cloned DVD images on my HD work fine, no freezing, but their taking up 4.3GB per movie, and I really want to convert them into DIVX avi's and later to my iPod Video..... please help.... I'm turning into a bloody insomniac over these problems, and I'm out of ideas...

It might be a bad rip from the original disc. Could you try ripping again from a friends disc? If the original was pressed wrong or scratched this could cause the problem in the rip. just a thought.

I thought about that too.... and when I tried a second disc of episode I, got the same thing.... and it's not just star wars, it's happened with any other movie I rip, the rip works fine, but when I go to convert into AVI, there will be at least one spot where the video freezes for six or seven min, even though the audio remains unaffected... I'm starting to wonder if its the AVS convertor, maybe you could suggest another dvd/avi convertor to try?
