Playing ISO PSP game prerequsites?

Ok, I don't have a PSP right now. I just bought the book "Hacking the PSP Cool Hacks, Mods, and customizations for the Sony Playstation Portable" by Auri Rahimzadeh. I've skimmed thru the book and it says that the firmware required is 1.5 for homebrew games. I looked thru the faq here on how to play backup psp games. I have a friend who is really good at modding things, he moded my xbox and he says that the way they backup psp games right now is unreliable and you can only play some games. Question: Do I need an older version of PSP firmware to play ISO psp games or is the older firmware just required for homebrew games? Can firmware 2.6 play ISO bakcup games? If it cannot, then I have to buy an older version? Is my friend correct in saying that it is unreliable to play backup psp games and only some of them work? Thanks for any answers!

Yes, PSP v1.50 will run homebrews. So you need a PSP v2.00 or below NOT v2.01 or above.

However GTA, Socom, and some other new games dont work on v1.50 but work on v2.0. That is why you need psp v2.00.

When you want to run homebrews or to play iso in memory stick, you downgrade psp to v1.50.

If you want to play Socom, GTA in the actual UMD, you upgrade psp to v2.00.

If you don't have a psp right now then the only whay you will get a 2.0 or below is from ebay.
All the shops now have only 2.01.

ok so let me get this straight, i was planning on having GTA as an actual UMD game, because one GTA is a rather large ISO, so would rather have it as an actual game then on the memory stick and plus i need a umd inserted into the psp in order to run certain launchers.

but from what i have just read, can i only run gta on a firware version 2.0 or above. what happens if you insert the umd game into a 1.5v firmware psp?

will other isos still launch on version 1,5, if the umd incerted into the psp is GTA.

I beleve there is a download so you can put on what a 2.0 gme needs but still be using 1.5, I cant find it now. I am at work so most sights are blocked :(

anyone know for sure or if it works? I just picked up my psp today and would love to get gta workin with out upgrading :P
