Format to rip to for Windows Media Player

My son (age 12)is trying to make a presentation for school using windows media player.

He has the pics scanned and put in already, but now he wants to add some video clips from our home dvds.

I suggest he uses a program to convert them to avi,liek Max dvd to Avi converter, then work with the avi in windows media player.

Is that the best way to do it with the least loss of picture quality,or is there a better way?

When he completes the project, is it best to burn it to a dvd or a vcd, again for best quality?

DivX format has small size and great quality. But, Windows media player can not play DivX usually. So you can rip DVD to AVI or WMV.
DVD Ripper Platinum can convert DVD to both formats. Have a try.
