How about introducing a feature where members can send files to each other. The file sizes could be any limit and depending on the 2 members connection that would determine how long it would take to download the file.
the best way to do this is set up a e-mail club through your pm,and exchange e-mails..
set up a couple of rules on the type of pix's and articles and jokes to send to each other..we been doing that since 2002...
also we have a web site with a private room so we can get together in real time..
ours is set up as any thing goes.in the e-mail only...
thats the way i do it..works great..we gave our club a name its called rag-tags.
ye can set one up just like that.
note,drd i am sure ye would remember the rag-tags..it started on ye afterdawn/dvdxcopy site.
the easiest way to do this would just be to meet on the IRC channel and transfer that way. now dont get me wrong, we will NOT have servers or xdcc bots in the channel, or on the stormchat network for that matter, but it works if you need to send something to someone.
I agree with the mods here although a good idea. Jammin the servers is a problem already and we dont want to add to it, using the above 2 mentioned methods fit the bill nicely.

The problem with sending files to other members via PM system is that:
a) AfterDawn Ltd could get into deep trouble if people would use the service to send out stuff like cracks, etc
b) people generally blame the middle-man for everything. Can't imagine how many complains we could get if people would download virus-infected software via our site, even tho it would be sent to them by another member via PM system.
c) Bandwidth. We already require approximately 6 terabytes of bandwidth each month. Add almost 500,000 registered members to that and allow them sending files to each others via our site and that figure could easily double.
d) Storage space. Our site doesn't actually need all that much storage space right now. I think we have less than 700GB of HDD in all our servers together. The requirements for storage space with "files via PM" service would be potentially enormous. And no, storage space for _servers_ is not cheap.
yes dRD it would be way to much trouble if people want to tranfer files between eachother they just need to hookup via email and do it though msn messager or email
