Can't overwrite saves transferred by PS2menu?

I've transferred saves like winning eleven 9 and Smackdown vs Raw 2006 from the net. More specifically, I got a save game from the net with custom wrestlers for Smackdown in MAX format. I converted it to NPO with save bulder and burnt on a disc with Ps2menu. I then extracted the save file to my mem card. It loads up fine, but I can't save (overwrite) the file at all. Is there a reason for this?
