Storing movies on Hard Drive

Ok.

I wish to store movies (ya know, home videos and such) on a hard drive, the computer would be a small one built to go into a cabinet of my entertainment center (blocked by a door) where a 15" LCD would be in there as well as a keyboard, etc. You get the point. :)

The sound card is a 5.1 capable sound card with fiber output and the video card is DVI capable as well.

I currently have backups in ISO format and can watch them in DVD Shrink, albeit, I havent hooked up my sound card to the DTS system to see if it is actually playing it in DDS or not. But, I have them on the hard drive in ISO format atm.

To make this "idea" (Im sure someone has already done this) work.. what is the best (best compression and best quality for that compression) FORMAT in which I should save these movies to the hard drive.. -and- what player should be used whenever I wish to watch these movies which will ensure use of DDS (5.1) etc.?

Well it would probably be best to Leave them in the Format they are allready in so you don"t loose Quality from encodeing....

Also since they allready Have Dolby 5.1 audio it would be best to keep them that way as there are not Many Formats that support Dolby 5.1 audio..(Mpeg4 and Mpeg-2/Vob)...There are also very Few Programs that support Createing Files with Dolby 5.1....
