Hi. I am looking to get a PS2 set.

Is it better to get an NTSC or a PAL set?

Or, since it would be modified anyway, it wouldnt matter?

Will there be any trouble playing NTSC backups on a modded PAL set?

Thanks.

Another thing, cause im acquiring a second-hand set.

And the owner doesnt know what modchip is in the set, how does he check it?

Also, does it really matter which modchip it is? Even a normal modchip can work fine, no?

not all chips can force different formats so NO not every chip will do the trick.

as for identification, some chips give an indication as to their maker when they boot, they will have a logo on the screen. the only sure way to know which chip you have is to pull the console apart and look.
