DVD Rebuilder/CCE Compression Question

I was wondering where many of you draw the line when it comes to compression. When do you decide to either back the movie up on a dual layer disc, or split using two DVD-5 disc because the compression is just to low. Or is this the reason why CCE is superior because you can compress a movie less then 70 percent and still retain a high quality picture.

Wow, in the low 50's? I am happy I asked this question though, because I was thinking about drawing the line at 70 percent.

Most movies as long as you blank the extras out and convert the menus to still you will have less than 70% compression. If that still isnt enough I will cut out the credits also.
Take a look at DVD Remake PRO, it is great for editing the video prior to running it through Rebuilder. You can remove the FBI warnings, blank extras, convert menus to still, remove unused buttons, cut out the credits among other things. I have found many movies that after doing the above require 0 compression.
Also this is just personal preferance here, but I have found much better results using the HC Enc at best quality than even 10 pass CCE. I use CCE for its speed on light compression, but HC is used for anything with more than 80%.

Wow...50%, that is quite impressive. I am really starting to like RB more and more. I have one question along the same lines as the original. I backed-up a movie that only required a drop in quality to 97%, so rather than let RB take 3-4 hours (I use HC), I just let recode do it for me in about 20-30 minutes. Would this 3% compression be a noticable difference? Should I have run it through RB instead? I only have a 27" Sony Flat CRT (non-hd), but would there be a noticable difference on a large HD TV? Thanks.

I don't think 3% compression will damage the vid much.

I have even used rb/cce and dvdremake to compress 2 dvd9's (total was 14.4 gb) down to 1 dvd DL disc. I did this with all 3 of the LOTR extended version disc sets. I had to change the target sector value in the .ini file so that the target size came out to 7.78 gb. The backup quality is excellent and that was only at 2 passes and I even kept the DTS audio soundtrack.
I also use rb/cce on projects with a reduction level in the low to mid 50% ranges all the time and the video quality is awsome.
