I'm asking this because I just got a brand new CDRW drive and I want to make sure that I'm not putting too much wear and tear on it. As I mentioned in another post I've been having trouble copying a bunch of CDRs, so I've been trying different methods of extraction with EAC to try and salvage the audio.

Last night I put it into copy mode and went to bed - when I woke up, the drive had been reading/correcting the first track (and only got as far as 15 seconds) for 10 hours!

Could this have caused any undue damage to my drive or is this no more wear and tear than ripping audio all day long?

I don't think it will necessarily hurt the drive by running EAC all night, but it will definately add to the wear and tear of the drive and possibly shorten the lifespan of it. If you want to give your drive a burn-in test and make sure it can perform well, use Sandra Benchmark or similar software that can run burn-in tests on all your various hardware components to test their performance and reliability.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Wouldn't the EAC burn, rip, and compare and Nero CDSpeed test do the same thing?

maybe for your CD drive, but not for your whole computer. I'd stick to using programs meant to test and burn in your drive instead of running a ripping program over and over.
