memory card HELP PLEASE

i recently bought a playstation one game, because i've played them on other peoples playstation two consoles before...
but for some reason i cannot save my game to the memory card. its a playstation two memory car.

the game is final fantasy IX
i love it but can't really play because i can't save it. i tried restarting, i switched between both my memory cards and even emptied one completely.

could someone please help me?!

You have to have a ps1 memory card to save ps1 games.
