My Legacy video capture device says it's working perfectly. My computer is brand new. Using Adobe Premiere Pro v. 7, I am trying to manually capture video from a VCR to burn to a DVD after editing it and it says my capture device is offline.

My speakers are not working on this computer either but they worked on the previous one.

Is there something I have missed such as turning on something or setting or configuring something?

Thanks for any help.

Did you install the disk that came with your capture device. It sounds like you are missing the drivers. Go to system information then hardware then device manager and see if there is a ! next to the capture device. If there is then click on device properties and update driver.
Make sure that your disk is in the drive. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer. The drivers are there. It states that it is working properly in the hardware device box. This should be simple, similar to plug and play but it's not getting read. I can't figure it out. The card was already in the computer. It's a new computer, a multimedia computer with all the bells and whistles so it should be working.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I havent used adobe for capturing before but I would try to look at any settings that the program has and configure the device. Select composite or tuner and so on according to what you have connected to the card. If you sellected tuner you have to sellect the channel. I have had some programs that did not work with my card even though it was working properly. If the first suggestion did not work try downloading VirtualDub or iuvcr and see if they work.

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 and it does not capture video from analog sources. It strictly imports digital video only. Unless Adobe Premiere Pro v.7 is different, you will have to use another program to do the capturing and digital encoding so that Adobe will be able to use it. If you have Windows XP you could use Windows Movie Maker to capture it as an AVI file and then import it into Adobe.

Thank you for your reply. While Premiere states it can accept analog into the monitor screen, I haven't been able to do this. I am beginning to wonder (now this might be a stupid girl thing), if there is a capture card in my computer. It is a new multimedia computer and other people have just given me their answers with the understanding that there is a card there. I look in the device manager and it says Legacy video but it doesn't tell me if it's really there. The codecs might be there and the drivers might be there but there may not be one. Whew.

How do you like Elements? Does it work well?

Thanks for your response.

Premier pro 7 and Newer versions aren"t Really For Captureing from analogue Sources, they are More For Captureing from DV Camcorders....

Maybe Try Different Capture Software and then Just Import your Captured files into Premier for editing.....

What Type of Capture device do you have???

P-4 2.6ghz (Overclocked to 3.2ghz)
Abit IS7
1gb Dual Chanell DDR 400mhz
Zalman CNPS7000-CU Cooler(Modded with 50cfm Fan)
XFX Gforce 6600GT 128mb GDDR3 (500/1000)
Pinnacle DV500 ADVC Editing Card

Actually, that was what I was wondering. I don't really believe I have a device after all. When I go into the device manager, it shows Legacy video capture and it says it's working properly. I don't know if that's an actual card or not....don't believe it is now that I have researched a little more. The computer is brand new, just got it for Christmas. I see that it has codecs and audio drivers. But I think I don't have a capture card. Do you have any suggestions on a good one for capturing video?

I did purchase the Dazzle 150 from Pinnacle for capturing analog. It seemed to work fine but now my computer turns off after about 3 minutes. Any suggestions on that too?

Thanks,

Well you would Know if you had a Capture device because you would need to Connect your VCR or your Cable to it to Recieve a Signal and be able to Capture Video.....

If your PC Shuts down after 3 Minutes then It sounds Like a CPU Overheating Issue.... If you haven"t Opened up your PC in a While and Cleaned it out then dust will start to Collect arround the Fans which Makes them slowly stop working untill finally they don"t provide enough cooling which causes your CPU to Overheat which shuts down your PC.....

It could be Something else but that is what it sound Like to me....You should Check your CPU temps to make sure they aren"t too High (over 50c is too high)......

Also "ALL" Computers have a "Legacy Video Capture Device" Listed in there Device Manager but it doesn"t mean there is an actualy Capture device Installed in the PC....

Cheers

I have the Dazzle DVD Creation Station 200, which is an external capture device that plugs in through a UHB port. It works fine to capture video in Moviestar5(the software that came with it) but it doesn't work for Adobe Premiere 2.0. It says capture device offline, and there is nothing I can do to get it to pick it up. Why won't it work and what can I do to make it work? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Adobe Premier will Only Capture from DV Camcorders Via Firewire Port not From Analogue Capture devices so if you want to use Premier To edit you will have to Capture in a different Program and import the Captured files into Premier Pro....

Hi, Actually there is a way to Capture Analogue Video in premier Pro but you have to have the "MainConcept Mpeg Pro HD" Plugin installed which is a Plugin that allow you to edit mpeg files in Premier without Quality Loss and in a very short period of Time and it also allow you to Capture Video to AVI or Mpeg Formats within the Plugins Settings in premier Pro....

Too Bad the Plugin is Like $250....

Cheers

Okay...so in lay girl's/person's/man's (you pick) terms...exactly how does one capture digital for premiere pro? Studio made it easy with their external devices, how does premiere capture video footage? Step-by-step exactly what does one need and what to do? I get confused reading a lot of the threads on this site because they all know what they are doing and, while I feel I am pretty savvy about computers (good with cars too), I am still willing to learn and need to learn.

How does one capture video for premiere pro?

Thanks again to all,

Well if you have a digital DV camcorder then it should be Extremely easy to Figure out (I think it is Under the "File" menu)But since I am Not on my own PC right now i can not Give you a step by step but I say if you can"t Figure it out For yourself then use a program that you can Figure out because if you can"t figure out the simplest part of Premier which is Captureing then you won"t be able to figure out anything else about the Program and you won"t be able to come Here and ask how to do everything as it would be too much to ask and it would Take up this whole Forum.....

if you really want to learn how to use Premier pro properly then take a video editing Or Media Course in College or Go and buy the adobe Premier Training videos....

Since you have an external capture Device and Not a DV camcorder or an Analogue Digital converter you "Won"t" be able to capture from your Device in Premier unless you have the Full retail version of the "Mainconcept Mpeg pro HD" Plugin installed.....

I believe I allready Covered all of this Because I am Haveing a "Deja Voux".....

capture with your Regular software and Just import the captured Files into Premier as this is the Only way you are going to be able to Get the Files into premier without the Plugin installed or useing a DV Camcorder.....

Cheers

I totally get it. I understand that it would take too long to explain. I understand that a dv camcorder will capture (once I get a capture card placed). Does a dv camcorder automatically place the footage in premiere or does it require being formatted by say, windows media and then imported?

do you have a suggestion on a capture card or are they all the same?

Thank you SO MUCH for all your help. It has been a total learning lesson.

Perhaps I can help, I have been there last year.

WinTV Pvr 250 capture card, will capture and encode in MPEG for DVD $150
Video Re Do to edit if required and save the out put. I think around $50
Burn to dvd, using whatever.

I learned last year to keep it vey simple and to master the simple tasks first. I have burned 29 DVD's of pics and old/new videos
and I still can not not compete on this forum, but my DVD's are done!

Start simple and learn, that is my tip.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi, Yes premier will capture the Video from a DV camcorder and place the video directly into premier.....

You can use any type of firewire card to transfer video from a DV camcorder or from a device like the Canopus ADVC-110/300 but any analogue capture card will not work within premier without the MainConcept plugin...

Cheers
