I just got doa4 yesterday, and so far I've been playing it for over 5 hours. I've completed story mode with all characters so far. I'm having serious problems playing the game. Sometimes cpu just starts a combo at the beginning of the match, and kicks my butt until KO. I can't counter in any way, and the cpu counters nearly all my attacks (especially that commando guy).

My record on timeattack is around 20 minutes, I always get stuck to the last opponents, they just defeat me with a one combo and that's it. The last opponent is the hardest, it usually takes me over ten minutes to kick her ass twice to win the match. In survival my record is 6 kills.

Any tips for a doa newbie (this is the first doa I've ever played, played tekken 1-3 before)? I'm an adept gamer, even ninja gaiden hurricane pack wasn't this hard. This is the first game ever that I've had problems with.

just takes a bit more practice

once u get countering down u will do much better

And i have to agree its a lot diff than other fighting games. My friend brought it over my house yesterday and he was owning me hardcore :P
Im more use to like marvel vs capcom style, seems more loose to me. Dunno might get this game cause a few of my friends have it, its rather fun to play online.

Yeah, I'll just have to train more then :p I read the instructions, but even if I did like it said, but I got nowhere. Sure it fun online, I tried it too. If you buy the game, then add me to your friend list and let's match ^_^ My gamertag @ my signature.
