I am a newbie,but I have successfully backed up approx. 100
dvd's using dvd shrink and am now also using anydvd in background
to decrypt. I am havin some problems now with some movies in ?.Fog
and the movie cave. The anydvd gives me the ok, but a window comes
up on dvdskrink about a navigation error and would not let me continue. I also had problems with madagasgar, I downloaded dvdfab and decrypted the movie, but could not figure out how to put the files into one and burn the disc. I am new to this site and not of
the newer generation, but am willing to learn.

Thanks in advance for any imfo,

My rule of thumb is: if you can get the movie onto the hard drive (using DVDDecrypter or DVDFab Decrypter) then you can burn it! here is a great thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136

the guides there will help you use Shrink after you have the movie on your hard drive! It will show you everything!

read all about DVDs..... more knowledge is the key! You'll get to understand more. enjoy, happy burning and welcome to AfterDawn!

A combo that seems to be working for most people is DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter and VOB Blanker. What you do is rip the disc to your hard drive first via DVDFab Decrypter or via File Mode F in DVD Decrypter. Then you open up the folder where the files are saved in VOB Blanker, select an output directory and process the files. VOB Blanker will remove all the bad sectors. These bad sectors are what causes the errors when you try to process them with DVD Shrink. Once VOB Blanker does it's thing, open up the files in the output directory using DVD Shrink, Nero Recode or CloneDVD. You shouldn't have any problems once you get to this stage. Although I have AnyDVD, I actually tried this method the other day with The Fog and it worked flawlessly.

Having tried expensive programs I cannot sing the praises of
DVDFabdecrypter and DVD Shrink, may take a little longer, but it is
free and hasn't failed me yet in backing up my movies.
