Was AnyDVD needed or do you always have it running?

Disable AnyDVD and see how DVD Shrink reacts to those 2 movies. Just curious!

I always leave mine disabled, that way I know which titles shrink will do and which ones the DVD Shrink needs help on.

@holymonk

Would you mind terribly doing as Saugmon suggested and leave AnyDVD off until needed, because AnyDVD will usually get through anything...so the info doesn't really tell us much, but the effort is appreciated.

I agree with everything that has been said. A lot of people don't have AnyDVD, so these titles may be harder to backup for some people.

I already have AnyDVD, the point I was trying to make was that the past tells us that AnyDVD typically has no problem with any new protection, so to run a test using AnyDVD is pointless...what you should do is try to rip the movies using freeware such as DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter by their lonesome to see if they have any problems. If they do, then use AnyDVD.

I am not trying to tell you how to rip your DVD's or to stop posting on your experience with newer movies, just do it in a more subjective way. This is useful information for noobs through addicts.

LOCOENG:

Want something done, you gotta do it yourself- LOL

Corpse Bride/In her shoes/and Supercross can be backed up using DVD Shrink and your favorite burn engine.I have region 1,and full screen only.

Nothing special,no need to activate AnyDVD,I don't have DVD43 on any of my 3 pcs and they had no trouble.

BTW: Supercross is a DVD-5,so you can use plain old DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read and write. A very quick 20 min backup using my 598 mhz celeron with 256 mbs rimm.

Thats what I was getting at. I don't want ppl to think that they have to have AnyDVD in order to get a backup.

I tried to use DVD Shrink directly from disk (Tim Burton's Corpse Bride), and as I thought I got the error, so I ran it through VobBlanker , and that was the end of that...

I dont think AnyDVD is needed at all anyway because everytime I have had a problem, all I have done was Decrypt with DVDFab Decrypter and then run the DVD files through VobBlanker Then encode with either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and burn the project with DVD Decrypter. Then if I still have a problem I look for posts from the User alkohol and so far I always end up with my backups and those programs I use are all freeware exept Nero Recode 2 so I Hope this works for others too.

Yeah so far that is the 'full-proof' way, but a lot of members either don't know about it, don't care to, or are just too lazy to look it up in other posts...People are just looking for the quickest way to back up theur movies hence AnyDVD .Ripping to your HD, then using VOB Blanker, and then through DVD Shrink ,or Nero is just 'TOO much work!' for others...But yeah as you stated VOB Blanker works wonders, and since it's free...well I guess you can have your cake, and eat it too...

I just backed-up two movies tonight: Corpse Bride and Legend of Zorro.

First I did Corpse Bride:
Used DVDFab then recode 2 to create nrg (image) file and burned with Imgburn.
Then backed-up main movie with recode 2 to create nrg file from same Fab files and burned with Imgburn.
Both copies worked perfectly.

Then two back-ups of Legend of Zorro:
First was a DVD-9. I first tried DVDD in iso mode, but it hung at 12%
So then I used DVDFab, Imgtool to create iso, then Imgburn to burn...perfect copy.
Then I created a main movie copy with recode 2 (nrg file) from original Fab files, and burned with Imgburn, backed-up perfectly.

I didn't need Voblanker, PGCedit, DVD43, AnyDVD, etc...just the programs listed above.

BTW...main movie back-ups of both movies fit onto DVD-5 without compression...hope this helps some of you.
