Best back-up method for Pro Evo Soccer 5?

Hi,

I have just installed Swap Magic 3.6 and the associated the Swap tool on my slimline PS2. I followed the instructions on using DVD Decrypter and made a back-up of PES5. When I run Swap Magic and then load the disk it appears to start Ok. Unfortunately it takes an age to get past the first PES5 screen, and it takes about 20 minutes to load the game. Then when you try to actually start playing the controller does not respond. Any clues or hints as to the best way to back up Pro Evo soccer?
NB. I have used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for a long time for my films and never had a problem. Is there something specific to PES5 that I need to do?
