DE-Interlacing in VirtualDub...

Ive been making personnal copies of some of my DVD's for a long time now. Ive only recently become obsessed with getting it perfect. Using the newest VD like always. Ive stuck to the method Ive used since 2002.
Smartripper > DVD2AVI > CDEX > Vfapi > Virtualdub > Done

HERES THE DILEMMA!




I cant find a deinterlacing option that doesn't have some sort of Defect or limitation. As you can see the frame of the DVD video playing in Media Player Classic is just as it should be. My problem is not being able to match that field sync with VD filters. If I use the Blend fields option I get a double vision and the video isn't smooth to pan across a scene. and if I go to Duplicate field mode theres no doubling, but you lose half the video information, and I noticed some frame loss as well.

Is there a way to have VD use my Hardware DeInterlacing? a new filter somewhere. Is my method too outdated to be functional? HELP PLEASE!~!

Is your Source DVD NTSC or PAL?? Actually it shouldn"t make a Differance because Both from a DVD source should be "Progressive" Not "Interlaced" if you do it Properly.....

Most PAL DVD"s Made from Film Source are Progressive so there are no interlace Lines and Most NTSC DVD"s Made from a Film Source are also Progressive after you remove the 3:2 Pulldown In DVD2AVI.....

So if your Source is a NTSC DVD then after you rip the DVD and Load the VOB files into DVD2AVI you have to select the "Forced Film" option under the "Field Operations" menu under "Video" then the resulting D2V file with be 23.976fps and Progressive and Not 29.976fps and interlaced.....

So if you select the "Forced Film" option in DVD2AVI you will get rid of any Interlaceing.....

What are you encodeing the files to ??? DivX or XviD or are you Frameserveing from V-Dub to an MPEG-2 encoder to Make a proper DVD Backup???

PS: You might want to look into useing "AVISynth" over the "VFAPI Converter" because the VFAPI converter converts the Colorspace to RGB so there is some Loss of Color Information when useing it and it also is a Lot Slower than AVISynth and AVISYnth can also resize and add filters and convert frame Rates ect better than V-Dub can....

Got it.. and i'm proud to say its the finest movie Ive ever seen downloaded or other wise.. ever.. the main problem was my version of dvd2avi was going 29.997 fps with no option for force film.. DGIndex on the other hand does a better job of color spacing and force film too. I also started using AViSynth to script the cropping and resize.



theres the frame of the finished video.. and dont judge from it because its saved as a jpg and the images compression messes up what I can only describe as awesomeness. Thanks for all your help.

Well I"m Glad you got it worked out...Just remember if you are going to encode this File to MPEG-2 for DVD that you add 3:2 Pulldown to make it 29.976fps....
