Hi all, I too am new to capture/rip world. This doesn't fit the "DVD" rip cat, but I need some knowledge. I was able to capture a Movie from my VCR using my Asus v6600 deluxe vid cap card. However the 1hr 50min show, with commercials ends up being over 2GB. I used a capture size of 320X240, and CD quality audio. Is there a capture prog out there that will allow me to capture in a format that will fit a 2hour movie on at most cd's.
You should use raw capturing material, even with higher resolution (btw. 320x240 is NOT a TV resolution, 352x240 is in US and 352x288 is PAL zone) -- this will generate huge bunch of raw material AVIs, sized anything between 2 to 10 gigs.
But then, after the capture, you should use some encoder to compress the files into smaller portions. I recommend encoding videos into VCD format when capturing from TV, using TMPGEnc, which is free software. This way, you can fit 74 minutes of video into one CD and you can play those CDs (VideoCDs) with your stand-alone DVD player as well.
