I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2 standalone DVD recorder that I have been making DVD's of old VHS tapes I have. I bought a Sony DRU-500AX DVD burner to make copies of these discs with. The DVD's I am making are not copyrighted or copyprotected in any way and according to Panasonic there is nothing in the finished DVD that would keep me from making copies with the Sony burner. I have updated Windows and DirectX as well as installing the required firmware from Sony's site and I am STILL getting the same error that I was getting when I first installed the drive..."error writing to the disc please try again with a different disc" and when I click on the advanced tab, I get this:
Sony DVD RW DRU-500A (L:) ATAPI (2.0c)
PX.DLL - 1.1.0.373
PXMAS.DLL - 1.5.0.113
PXWAVE.DLL - 1.2.0.88
PXWMA.DLL - 1.0.0.2
OLEAUT32.DLL - 2.40.4518.0
MSVBVM60.DLL - 6.0.88.77
MSCOMCTL.OCX - 6.0.88.62
MSCOMCT2.OCX - 6.0.88.4
PXHelp20.SYS - 2.2.44.0
I am using the Veritas software that came with the drive, but I have also tried Roxio's Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 and Pinnacle's Instant Copy with similar results. I have tried both Ritek and Verbatim DVD-R media and have gotten this error. It seems like it writes something to the disc because once I try to use it in the burner, I can't use it in my standalone. I have also attempted to use Verbatim DVD+R and Sony DVD+RW. The drive doesn't even acknowledge these discs. It spits them out and says "please insert blank media". They're blank. The Sony DVD+RW CAME WITH THE DRIVE. I did the drive test on Sony's site and it passed. I have been able to do a CD with the drive, but I can't get the DVD's to work. It will read the DVD and play it without any problems, but it will not burn a copy.
I now have a pile of 16 DVD-R's that I can't use and they're not cheap!! I have not tried DVD Decrypter, but it seems to be pretty popular here. Does anyone know what they're talking about? Sony sure doesn't. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the longwindedness of this post!!!!!
