Help me BURN faster!!

I have a P4 2.4 gig process with 1 gig pc3200 ram. I put in a Hp 330I dvd burner. enabled dma, updated firmware. When I try to burn a couple episodes of lost i downloaded (AVI format).. They took a whopping 5 hours to convert. I used Unlead software and Arcsoft Showbiz dvd. What can i do to speed up converting process? I burn files directly from hard drive to the dvd-rom.

why don't you use DivXtoDVD (which the newer verions of ConvertxtoDVD soon to be released by VSO Software). I use this program and it converts to DVD format and then burns directly in much less time!!!!

divx giving about 21 fps at an average 1750 kb/s it will take me 1 hour to do a 42 minute episode of lost. Is this normal?

Are you multitasking and do you have any spyware running. Dont multitask while burning and close down all other unnecessary progs including anti spyware.

Any time you do that type of conversion you are talking long times. Its just the way it is. Amount of time depends on system specs, length of the original download and its quality, and program used. You will have to try the different programs to see which one works best on your system, but don't expect it to happen fast. Several hours isn't out of line.

boy, I guess I have a fast system! Converting downloaded .AVI files to DVD format for a 2 hour movie only took a little over an hour for me using DivXtoDVD...... I am will get ConvertxtoDVD when it comes out! can't wait!

When i convert episodes, lets say Mash, I convert 12 episodes at a time and it takes about 4 hours, so I do it over night. Then when I wake up its ready to do another 12. Those r just half and hour shows, so its obviously going to take longer for Lost. Something to think about is that a two hour movie is a two hour movie, but 5 episodes of Lost is over 4 hours of material. I use DivXtoDVD also, (its by for the best program for conversion), and my fps runs between 55 and 62, that I would say is running a little slow for u. Actually I am trying out the new ConvertxtoDvd right now and 4 hours of material is going to be converted in less than a hour. It certainly is living up to the hype so far. I believe it retails at 34.99.

thanks for info after unlocking divxto dvd i get much faster transfer rates at 40 fps did 2 episodes which is about 1 1/2 hours long, converted in like 50 minutes. burned in like 5 minutes thanks for software guys. DIVXtodvd Rocks!! What type of system you have to get rates at 55-62fps (USTOP)?

I have a p4 2.8 with 1.5 gb of ram. Not much more than u. I can tell u that I started a new conversion and it is holding steady at about 46 to 48. Different formats different conversion speeds. U might see your speed jump up or down depending what ur trying to convert. I never really paid much heed to the fps b4 u mentioned it, to be honest. I hope everything works good for ya.

@foxy340, I'm glad to hear you're on top of the problem. I dont know what prog you use to burn but seeing you are using VSO's DivXtoDVD why not download their prog, CopyToDVD and just tick the box in DivXtoDVD that says burn with CopyToDVD...a 1 step prog.
