Disc Swapping?

Hey everyone just a quick question. how come I can get some discs that won't direct boot to start up by swapping? Does that mean that sometime in the future a bios upgrade may fix that? I just got some Sony (Yuden) and they won't direct boot, but they play if I do a disc swap. I don't know what disc swapping does but it works for whatever reason.
