I own an LG 16x Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter device ? Model GSA-5163D and I am having several issues with it over the past few months.
Purchased primarily to have the ability to format a cd ? I am using cd-rw discs ? want to be able to write word documents to the disc and have the disc act like a floppy disk ? retaining the ability to add other documents to the disc ? to delete docs from the disc ? to make changes to the docs ? even rename the docs should I choose - below are my issues ? other than being long winded.
10-05 purchased and installed device with software disc that came with burner ? ?LG DVD Writer Solution? ? includes Power DVD ? Power Producer Gold ? Nero Express & INCD ? all worked well ? no issues ? was able to use the CD-RW as a floppy ? adding ? deleting docs as I pleased
Issue # 1 - - - - 11-05 - inserted a previously formatted CD-RW to add a few word docs and magically ? overnight ? the CD-RW has now converted from a formatted CD to a non formatted CD ? I can now longer add new word docs to the disc ? my disc is no longer acting like a floppy as I formatted it to do ? Why did my formatted CD-RW magically convert to a non formatted CD-RW ??? and not just one disc ? several previously formatted disc are now as though I never formatted them ? as if I burnt to them ? cannot add new docs to the disc ? therefore - - -
Went to format a new CD-RW and the INCD program is no where to be found ? called LG hardware support ? pretty much clueless - they said I must have a bad disc ? sent another disc ? labeled Nero Express 6.3.1.12 ? also has INCD on it 4.2.4.1 - - - I attempted to re-install the INCD program to format the new disc - received the ?Veritas ? Drive Letter Access was detected on your system ? please uninstall Veritas ? Drive Letter Access before you install INCD4? error message which brings me to issue # 2 as follows:
01-06 due to technical issues ? I had to unfortunately reformat my Dell laptop hard drive ? all the way down to a clean slate ? after re-installing Microsoft Windows XP Professional ? all the Dell drivers ? the last of which was a Dell disc labeled ?Sonic Record Now 7.3 Deluxe Software - - - think that last disc is where I bit the dust - - - and then all of my other programs ? when attempted to load the Nero CD ? received the receive ?Veritas ? Drive Letter Access was detected on your system ? please uninstall Veritas ? Drive Letter Access before you install incd4? error message
Goggled the error message ? 1st search result was the thread listed below thank goodness - read through the thread ? the fix offered by steveb11 seemed to fix the issue for Jenap ? but created other problems ? not looking to fix this issue and create other issues ? have listed all relevant system info below hoping someone can help on issue # 1 and issue # 2
Operating system ? Microsoft Windows XP Professional ? Version 5.1 with Service Pack 2
DVD Burner Device ?16x Super Multi DVD/CD Rewriter ? Model GSA-5163D
When I follow steveb11 advice ? right clicking on my internal DVD/CD-RW drive - - - the one that came with the laptop ? as well as the external DVD burner icon in My Computer - - both have a check mark in the box - - - Enable DLA on your drives - - - I am not certain as to where to go from there ? do not understand much of his language past getting to the DLA tab ? not that proficient ? guess that?s why I am on the newbie?s list ?
I have 3 Sonic entries in my add/remove programs window:
1 - Sonic Record Now Plus ver 7.3
2 - Sonic Update Manager ? ver 2.9
3 - Sonic DLA - Ver 4.95
Beyond this ? I don?t know what to do to get the INCD loaded so I can format a CD-RW to use as a floppy ? which is the primary reason I purchased the burner. I have about had it at this point with Nero ? but open to help ? looks like Scuba Pete is a believer ?
The support at Nero has been of no help ? other than canned e-mails ? looking for some real help
I have recently purchased the new Nero package and everything installed except for InCD 4. I got the error message: "Veritas - Drive Letter Access must be uninstalled." Veritas RecordNow came preinstalled on my computer but I have uninstalled it and it is no longer listed in the program list on the control panel. If I wanted to, how do I uninstall the Drive Letter Access of a program that is no longer on my computer?
The only mention I found of this problem on your forum was advice given to someone not to download InCD 4 because it interferes with burning. I don't know what problems they were refering to but it makes me wonder if I should install this program at all. I have been using the Nero trial version without the drag and drop up until now, so it is just a convenience that I don't need if it will complicate other aspects of burning.
I am having the same problem after installing Sonic MyDVD Ver 6.0. I have used VJ16 Power Tools to completely scrub my registry and remove any references to Veritas, etc. Apparently, it deeply embedded in My DVD (which I can use by burning what I want to my hard drive and then using Nero to burn to DVD).
Solved the problem but after long hours, yet I've got new problems. I finally reinstalled Sonic's Drive Letter Access (DLA) software so that it was recognized by "Add Remove" and I uninstalled it. Then able to reinstall InCD, BUT it then removed ZoneAlarm Pro, Norton Antivirus and made it so I could not enable autoscan (no matter what I did), and removed many other programs from startup. I've written Nero, but I had this problem with an earlier computer and they replied they'd never seen this before. Hope somebody has some ideas.
Windows XP includes a program that provides some, but not all, of the recording and disc preparation features available in DLA. Only one program can be enabled at a time for each user. You must disable the software provided with Windows XP before DLA can be used. This is done for the current user when DLA is installed on the computer. Other users will be given the opportunity to enable DLA after they have logged on.
To switch between DLA and the default recording program:
In My Computer, right-click your recorder drive, then click Properties.
The Properties dialog box appears.
Select the DLA tab on the Properties dialog box.
If a check mark appears beside the Drag-and-drop recording option, DLA will be used for your drag-and-drop recording. If the box is empty, the default program will be used.
Add or remove the check mark beside this option to switch between programs.
Switching Users During DLA Operations
User switching in Windows XP is allowed even if DLA is in the middle of copying files or formatting a disc. However, if the new user tries to shut down the computer before DLA finishes an operation started by a previous user, a dialog box will appear asking the new user to wait until DLA has finished.

Caution Turning off the computer while DLA is copying files or formatting a disc may result in lost data or an unusable disc.

ScubaPete, I'd like the Nero expert to tell me why on two machines when I updated InCD 4, I loss ZoneAlarm Pro AND Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect could not be activated. This happened both with an update and I tried to reinstall from my CD the original InCD version. I've written Ahead about the problem, but I wrote them when originally happened on a Dell but there only response was "we've never heard of that before." It happened again on my newly built 3.2 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 2 (non-RAID) SATA 200. Curious :-)
Any insights would be most appreciated.
remove incd that program is the reason you are having problems when you record on to the disc the recording program will format the cd before recording you do not have to format before using. the disc will not be finalized this allows you to add more info at alater date incd has always been a problem
cannot romove the incd program as it will not install in any shape form or fashion - due to the fact that the dla program is installed - and removing the dla apparently causes additional new problems - according to several entries earlier 10-2004 in this thread -
also - any thoughts as to why a previously formatted disc with the incd program - is now acting like a non formatted disc - as if i burnt to it - cannot remove or add docs to it - will have to copy all disc - onto another formatted disc ??
first remove sonic dla and sonic recording programs from your hard drive then uninstall incd then remove Nero from your system reboot your computer then install Nero without incd do not install any sonic software. your disc is most lickly bad that happened to me once before because itried to format a disc your Nero program will allow you to have the ability to do what you want to also windows will do the same thing all you have to do is high lite the docu you wish to copy a drop down box apears highlite copy program or file another box will ask were you wish to copy the file to highlite cd drive put in cd and windows will do it for you also you do not need to use rw discs it will work with r discs as the disc are not finalized
