im very new to ftp never thought i needed it now i see that i need it. i have a few questions.
1. can i connect my xbox staright to my pc?
2. do i need the internet connected?

go here and read a few of the FTP tutorials and see if you can figure out how to set everything up.
You most likely need a Cat5 crossover cable that will go strait from the Xbox to your PC's ethernet port. The cable is about $13 for the longest one i have seen of 50'. if you do not need one that long it will be a less $$$
