Hello all, I'm new here, so I hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking this.

Say for the sake of argument, I walk into a Best Buy with the intent to buy DVD+Rs. Eventhough I do have a decent amount of previous knowledge, what would be the best option as far as a 50 spindle of discs be? If you would be so kind, give me 2 options. 1 if price wasn't important, and 1 if it was.

Thanks again all.

Look out for where its manufactured. Choose Made In Japan disks and stay away Memorex.

I was looking for more along the lines of a specific brand or exact package that they would sell.

Thanks for the tips though.

Fuji,Sony,Maxell (made in Japan) or Verbatim advanced AZO or Taiyo Yuden( won't be found at Best Buy unless rebranded). Generally speaking if the label says made in Taiwan stay awas (with the exception of verbatim).

Any specific packages I should look for? Maybe a link to BestBuy.com for an exact product package? Thanks for the help though.

You will have to have it in your hands to know if it's made in Japan, the packageing will look the same. Are you could just buy Verbatim.

You seem to be extremely knowledgeable on this subject...how about this for a 50 pack....http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001LRIT4/102-8815439-6722546?v...
Would that be what you are talking about?

Otherwise, for sake of argument, if you and I were at a store(Best Buy, Circuit City, etc...), and I said which one? Which pack would you point to?

Thanks, you rock.

That is a good deal...

But if I where standing with you in a store (which wouldn't be circuit city) the package would look exactly like this: http://supermediastore.com/verbatim-16x-dvd-plus-r-media-95145.html

I almost gagged ;

List Price: $62.00
Price: $25.78
You Save: $36.22 (58%)

That`s a good price !!!!!

BestBuy, CircuitCity, Staples and OfficeMax rotate through all the Brands weekly. Fuji then Sony Then TDK`s then Memorex and Verbatim. If you can be patient till the brand you want comes around, they go for $15.00 for a stack of 50. Sometimes they will have a 25 pack for $7.50.

$25.78 is not a GOOD price !!!

See Bestbuy flyer below:

Thanks a million, you have been very helpful. Am I correct in assuming that the printables are no better then the regulars, other then the printable label of course. Where do these Verbatims rank in the hierarchy of good discs?

Would all versions of Verbatim be the same time of excellent quality?

Wow, nice job with all the flyer copies there guys. Then any of those listed, like the movie reel or the regular ones above, should be some of the best I can get right?

And 15 bones is an awesome price for the fiddy pack then?

I can, I just wanted to make sure that the quality between the movie reel version, and the regular cake boxes in the 2nd flyer are of the same quality. If so, I can easily assume that the price is nice for that pack, thanks.

I don't know for certain (because I don't own a printer that will print on the dvd) but the printable ones cost more than non-printable ones. Why pay more if you don't need to.

Verbatim digital movie quality discs are 4x speed. Best buy's price is a fair price, but you can slip on over to an Office Max and get the Verbatim 16x media for a couple of bucks cheaper. Most of the Office Max stores have those verbs for $14.99,with a few stores at $13.99.

Both those 4x and 16x speed verbs feature Advanced metal azo dye, made by mitsubishi. Between verbatim and taiyo yuden, they are the top dogs among quality blank dvd media.

Other than those 2 brand names,it's a little more confusing for Sony/Fuji/and Maxell media. You can get lots of tys in the sony and fuji, and hitachi in the maxells- by looking those outer shrink wrappers carfully for Made in Japan. Not much of a difference between japanese/taiwanese sony and maxell, but can be pretty huge for fuji. They are in identical spindles, and all mixed together for the same price. The fuji tys run more rampant in the 30 disc tubs.Sony tys will mostly be in the 50 pack tubs.Hitachi maxells can be had in just about majority of their different quantity batches.

Why buy fuji/maxell riteks when you can get ty/or hitachi for the same price?

"make memories that last" LOL from the best buy flyer...hahahhaa

too bad they don't state "bad memories that you can't drill outta ur head causing sleepless nights of a raging headache due to coasters" when they put up the Memorex on sale for $14.99 each 50-pack~ LOL

marketing genius, they just so happened to leave out the key word "bad" that was supposed to go between 'make' and 'memories', it's too bad they put those good Verbatims on the same page with that title...

Thanks Saugmon, that pretty much answered all my lingering questions. Thanks doc...just for gracing my thread, lol. I'll just grab the verbatims, I don't feel like going on an easter egg hunt to find TY's under all those other Name Brand labels, when I can grab the easily recognized Verbatim packs.
