Alright, here is my situation. I have been enjoying my modified PS2 for about a year and a half now. I recently got a hard drive and started loading my games onto it. I figured this would alleviate any problems I might run into with DVD-drive failures. Well, I was dead wrong. My DVD drive started skipping, and then almost instantly stopped working.

I have taken apart the PS2 and tried to swap in a new drive. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate the correct drive that would fit my unit. The possible fixes are as follows...
1) buy a new modded PS2 (not likely)
2) find a memory card exploit that lets me load games from my HD (w/o any help from the DVD drive)
3) find a matching DVD drive that I know will work
4) buy a used PS2 and a real copy of HDA or HDL (bad option)
5) buy a used PS2, and use the PS1/memory card exploit to load from HD
6) ?? suggestions ??

The worst part about my situation is that I PURPOSELY bought the harddrive to prevent a problem like this from happening. Oh well.. you play you pay! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

**After taking apart the entire PS2, checking all the ribbon connections, and cleaning the moving parts of the DVD drive, I have come to the conclusion that the motor on the DVD drive is bad. It is thus rendered as useless. I need to find a way to load games from my hard drive WITHOUT using the DVD drive at all.**

the only way you'll use the MC without the use of the CD/DVD drive is via a Dev1 mode chip.

in your situation I'd get a modder/repairer to take a look at your console to see if they can determine the most practical fix.

your PM said you have the DMS3, which flash do you have on it?
