V3 problems moving wav tones to ring tones

i have transrerd wav files that i go on a cd that i bought, i ve got the files in the multimedia section of my phone and if i select the menu button i dont see the option apply to ring tones...it sows this option for the sounds that are factory set, i also noticed that there is a pic of a lock next to the factory set tones the question that i have is there someting that i have to do to get them to transfer over so that i can select them to use as ring tones...any help will be great.
