Hoping someone will be able to assist me with my problem
I got my Slimline PS2 chipped 2 weeks ago, and he put in a chip with the title infinity v1.4.
I last played my PS2 Monday night, worked fine. I put a game in last nite (Thursday) and when i press on, it brings up the red screen saying Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 Disc. When i put in an original disc no probs at all
Question is, do you think the chip has crapped itself?
Is there another way to boot it up, at the moment all i do is turn it on and it works fine, normally.
Thanks in Advance
Shane

Well if it's running Matrix Infinity Infinity firmware v1.4, it's probably a clone chip. There are a ton of MI clones out there, where'd you order the chip from? Try hitting triangle+circle at boot up, that should bring up the MI firmware menu. If it doesn't, you most likely have a clone. The other possiblity is crap media. What's the Media ID of the discs you're using?
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

either the chip is faulty, or is going to be(with default disabled mode). Possible that the installation came loose too.

Maybe, but he needs to rule out the two suggestions I posted first. If neither of those is the cause, you're probably right.

I got my PS2 installer out of the trading post and he installed the whole thing for me so i really don't know, but the best thing is he gave me a 12 month warranty on my whole playstation so i better take it back to him.
I get my games off a bloke that uses Ritek Media, and i heard that these aren't a bad quality disc.

Is this a mode i can get it out of myself?

The problem with this is that he has put warranty stickers on so i can't even get to the chip to have a look if it looks like the one you posted on here.
Is there any way i am able to tell if i go through MI Firmware Menu?
What's the difference between the Clone and the original, what won't it let you do?
Cheers

Try hitting triangle+circle at startup. If it's a legit MI, that'll bring up the firmware menu. If not, it's a clone.

Just had the bloke that modded it have a look at it and, he didn't put enough solder on last time and he has now fixed the error.
It was the wire for the CD/DVD. I don't really know but it now works again.

Well you get what you pay for. The Mars chip isn't the greatest. Hence you need it replaced within a week. It doesn't pay to invest in low quality chips. Settle for no less than the DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, or the Crystal Chip 1.1.

Why not have them switch it out for one of the chips I mentioned. Does the site you sent it to carry those chips? Any good mod site would.
5. Q. What modchip should I get?
A. Matrix Infinity (Green Dot), DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip 1.1. The DMS 4 Pro SE has a HD Loader built into the flash and all the feature's you'd expect from a quality modchip, I recommend the DMS 4 SE Pro, because it has a 2MB flash built into the chip, and it's only about $10 more than the DMS 4 SE Lite. If you're interested in playing games off a HD, take a look at the DMS 4 Pro SE.
http://www.dms3.com/dms4se/features.html
The Matrix Infinity is the grandfather of auto boot modchips. It was the first modchip to auto boot backups/imports with no swapping/resetting. It's feature packed and simple to use. Matrix Chips are probably a little more durable than the other two, and extremely reliable. There are a lot of Matrix Infinity clones out there, make sure you order from one of the reputable installers listed in this thread.
http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=chip_infinity
The Crystal Chip 1.1 is the latest contender to graduate to the top flight chip category. It is feature packed, simple to use, and effective. The CC auto patches DNA ID's so you'd never need to bother with Windip, Winimage, or Disc ID Insertor. Definitely recommended if you play your backups online alot. To boot backups/imports the Crystal Chip requires the use of "hacked" firmware. It's simply the official firmware modified so the chip can boot backups and imports. Everyone who uses the CC uses the hacked firmware, so fear not. The only feature that the CC doesn't share with the other two chips is support for cheat devices like ARMAX or Game Shark.
http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2#31 CC 1.1 Hacked Firmware v.19: http://www.forumconsolas.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1213
I personally have a Matrix Infinity and it works great. I have no regrets as to getting a modchip over Swap Magic. Once you have a quality modchip, you'll never go back to disc swapping again. It cost's a little more in the short term, but think of all the time you'll save rebuilding, shrinking DVD-9 to DVD-5, patching PAL games to NTSC, and the like. If you haven't noticed, most people who have trouble getting games to boot are Swap Magic users. This isn't nearly as frequent a problem for people who have modchips. Just some food for thought.
Note: v.12 PS2's will need a laser fix like the neo fix. This is necessary to keep the laser from burning out.
From KC36330, a professional modder and member of AD:
If your modder didn't install a laser fix then most likely your laser is now on its way out. All V12 PS2's require the laser fix, especially modded consoles. Even a new unmodded slimline v. 12 PS2 can burn the laser out in as little as a few hours of game play.
Laser fix info: http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12laserfix.htm
Also be wary of this if you have a v.9 or 10 PS2, you will require what is known as a "Romeo Mod."
From KCC36630:
It's not really a DMS related mod, it is a V9/10 laser issue and is often refereed to by modders as 'Version 9/10 syndrome.'
As is the V9/10 has 12v driving the LA chip which feeds the focus coils for the laser. When scratched or low quality media is used the LA chip will feed a voltage to the focus coils. Anywhere from 0-12v (in an unmodded setup) and this voltage can cause coil burn out, damage to the LA chip from overheating, and even cause the ribbon cable to the laser (coils) to deteriorate which can lead to them shorting together and taking out the LA chip all together. The 'Romeo Mod' removes the 12v feed to the LA chip and replaces it with 5v. this is done by lifting pin 17 on the LA chip completely off the PS2s motherboard and soldering a 30 awg wire to the lifted pin and attaching the wire to any 5v source on the mobo.
One of the first tests on a V9/10 (prior to modding) that i do is to check the coil resistance, it should be 4.5-5 Ω each.
26. Q. I'm in the market for a modchip or premodded console. What are some reputable sites I can order from?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/251223 In addition http://www.modchip.com and http://www.norcalmods.com are supposed to be reliable. http://www.Xmodds.com is another quality mod site. If you're interested in a premod or modchip, be sure to order from one of these high quality sites.

actually i never sent it to a site, i would never ship my playstation anywhere, i got it done at the only mall i could find and i assume this is the only chip they carry which would be why they charge so much for it, another reasont it cost more is cause its for a 75001 slim moddel, but if the mars is this much id hate to see the price tag on a crystal or matrix. i just dont understand if the mars are so cheap why would they give me a 90 day warranty on it? oh well i dont know much about ps2 i just got it at christmas so ill have them do it again but if this happens again i guess i should get a refound and hunt all over for another chip, but deffenitly the crystal or DMS 4 u suggested they seem like what im looking for.

I paid $100 to have my PS2 modded with a Matrix Infinity. Teammodders.com did mine. You got ripped off. They charge that much, because they prey on people like yourself who're paranoid or unaware of reputable modders online. Xmodds.com ships to Canada. He's reputable and carries good chips. There's nothing to worry about if you send your PS2 to one of the reputable modders on that list. I don't say any of this to demean you, only to try to educate you a little about modchips.
