Hi all, Hoping someone can help me out here. I have been burning cds with no problems for about 4 months now. But recently the last 3 cds that I have tried to burn with Decrypter and shrink or dvdfabdec and shrink are not playing on my dvd player. When I play the new movies such as lord of war, half light in my bedroom dvd player the play fine but they will not load on my liveroom dvd player where all my other movies are playing fine.I just got a new computer and installed all of my dvd burning software on it.Could some of my setting on shrink or decrypter be off?Is there some new protection on these latest dvds? Its weird because it will play all of my previously burned dvds. I went ahead and made a copy of a couple of originals such as Robots and the last samurai and sure enough it plays fine. Im using memorex media which has always worked fine for me and nothing else has changed. But im noticing that these last 3 movies arent playing on my main dvd player....Thanks in advance.
Is this a new dvd burner,or your old burner that you placed in the new pc?
Give us some model#/s and brand names of those burners.
When you start changing dvd burners, stand alones may factor in.It's all about compatability.
Are you backing up entire disc or main movie only? May be a compression issue on your main stand alone player?
Do you have any MID codes for your memorex media? Their codes usually change between different batches/spindles.Also let us know if you did switch spindles or pack size. DVD Decrypter should tell you that MID code of those discs. Check some of the good backups and some of those newer backups that don't play and post back those codes.
Memorex are usually not recommended. They, like most brand names, outsource their media to many different manufacturers. Unfortunantly, majority of their discs are made by the crappier manufacturers-say around 75%.They do have some pretty good manufacturers, but a lower chance of getting them. That's why one batch may be good-maybe getting ritek or ricohs, and next batch horrible-cmags.
The main setting in DVD Shrink that I keep all my pcs at is Backup target size.I keep mine at 4360 mbs just to keep the burn away from the outer edge of disc:
Open up dvd shrink
Edit
Preferences
Click dvd-5/scroll till custom
Enter 4360 next to custom
OK
4380 mbs is all you can fit on a blank DVD-5.Poor quality media may have to have and even more reduced backup target size like 4300 mbs.
Thanks for the help.
I was able to resolve the issue myself.
The backups were burning fine. They were playing on my other dvd player and everyone elses that I knew when I tested it but it would not play on my Pioneer dvd player in the livingroom when all my other backups played fine. I just used defabdecrypter lowered the shrink setting on shrink from 3400 to 3300 and then burned w Nero and it now works on the pioneer as well as all others too.
Thanks for your help anyways. I greatly appreciated.
No problemo. Just keep in mind, you have reduced that backup target so you'll have more compression. More compression can lead to further playback issues. It's great having several different stand alones to test your backups in.
Another thing to factor in is your media quality. Use this free handy tool to find the MID code/s of your memorex backups. Test some of the older ones and newer ones to see if that MID code has changed. Here's where you can get it:
Dvd decrypter/dvdinfopro/and Nero toolkit can also give you that code.I'm curious if that code changed and now you're burning cmag media.Better media, and you can take that backup target to 4360 mbs. Some stand alones will pick out that media quality with issues like you are having.
I'm not sure if your other backups were burned with DVD Decrypter. I test my backups on a slew of different pc drives/stand alones/and ps2 drives. I know for a fact that there are variations between my decrypter backups and Nero backups. That's why I try to stick with Nero on all my single layer backups.Far more compatability and less playback issues. Stand alone players can do some weird stuff when it comes to reading backups.Just keep an eye on that pioneer stand alone.
