Not a good heading if you are trying to get help, as people will avoid this:

WHATS the source of the AVI file?

Well I sure don't know!
It would be somewhat easier if we had the entire log. No guarantees though. There are lots of ways to have failures.

I'd use a different program myself.

This is the updated replacement for VSO's DivXtoDVD program.

hey frank, it sounds like the AVI may not be able to be encoded, with the application version that he is running.

Wondering if this is the culprit:

Whats the version of the software you are using?
is there an upgrade ?

I'll take your word on it lol.

I would need to see what the rest of the log looked like and as you mentioned, find out where the .AVI comes from.

I did find this thread at cdfreaks which seems to point at faulty files. They suggested a couple of different programs to use.

I've been using DivXtoDVD occasionaly. I knew they had a more potent version coming out soon. I visited their site and sure enough it's been released.

VSO discontinued DivXtoDVD and replaced it with ConvertXtoDVD just in the past couple of days.

Sorry for delay in responding - been away a couple of days.

The thread title was about me not knowing much about this and presuming you guys did! Guess it didn't come across...

The full log was posted a few days ago and is back 2 or 3 pages but it didn't get much response at that time. Nero version is latest V6 fom the website. The AVI file is from a Canon miniDV camera - all I'm trying to do is back up my DV tapes to DVD in the simplest way possible, but they just will not encode. Driving me mad. Perhaps I should race a GSXR too to get rid of frustration!

Guess I could try the convertxtodvd stuff, but I don't want to buy more software which may not work either if the problem is more fundamental.

OK can do that. One point though (showing my ignorance here) I thought an AVI camcorder file and DivX were two different formats? Or am I being dim here?

and AVI is the most basic form.A DivX file is the container form of an AVI as is XviD sort of.................vso DivX to dvd will convert avi/xvid/divx/mpeg to an mpeg2 compatible file format so that you can burn your project to disc
